Any of you guys machinists?

HI just wondering if any of you guys are in the trade of machinery/manufacturing? My school is offering some sort of vocational college hours program where you basically do college hours in the fields of advanced manufacturing which they summed up to me as machinery. I'm interested in electrical or mechanical engineering but dont know if this could actually help me or should i just take more classes at the high school on subjects like electricity, engineering, etc. I know some of you guys might have some useful input so hope to get some feedback. Thanks for your time

I'm an ME, but i dabble in machining to help my hobbies out. My knowledge/equipment saved my team's ***** during our senior project. Figure out manual machining, then learn everything you can about CNC.

Yep, manual first.

If you dont know much about how the machinist will actually make the part you draw up, you end up with impossible square holes or a $25,000 mounting bracket. Ive seen guys fresh out of school make these types of mistakes because they knew next to nothing about how their designs would have to actually be manufactured.

I've been a designer, engineer,..and machinist and an electrician. You need to know a little about everything to have an overall perspective on projects.

Hell even if you go into Electrical it still wouldn't hurt to have those skills. I'm interning as an EE and I have to use the drill press, band saw, and mill all the time. Still haven't quite figured out the lathe though...

nah, just a plane jane stock one. There is a tripple black C6 vert in my town for sale with 14k miles on it for 30k .... not a bad deal.
