heres wat im planning to get

in dash player

set of 6 1/2

set of 6x9s

and two 6x9 boxes

have no clue what i should get, looking towards kenwood. i have a buget around 300 - 350

my vehicle is a 71 chevy cheyenne, it has no holes in the doors. so i need to cut it out. thats another question. what do i need to do to cut the 6 1/2 hole out of the door. just get a demel and start at it or what. sorry for the questions but like i said my department isnt electronics.

I think your head unit will not work either. Your "in dash" is going into an old two shaft unit cavity. You'll have to get crafty but it can be done.

LMK if that's your intentions w/your newer unit.... I have a trick that I came up w/once.

have no clue wat you talking about. but go on any help appreciated

IMO, get a head unit with 2-3 RCA pre-amp outs (my alpine 9843 only has one, but I'm not needing an amp for fronts just yet). Get a four channel bridgeable amp. Two channels to run the components (or whatever you want) in the doors then bridge the other two channels to run a sub (10" or 12") in a sealed box.

However, this all may topple your budget. A good "budget" head unit will be $150-200 (mine retails for $150). Then depending on what deal you can find: front speakers ~$50, amp (totally depends on what you want vs. what deal you find) ~$100-300. You might have to wait on subs until later. I'll be the first to admit, I don't have hands-on experience with all of this, mostly just research on forums, so anyone can chime in and correct me if I'm wrong. I bet they'll tell you to spend more on a good head unit/component set/amp and wait on subs until later and to drop the 6x9's, just my guess.

For the door, mainly a dremel or jigsaw will cut a decent hole. I believe it was Lemans who said, "measure five times, cut once." You wouldn't want to cut a hole and mount a speaker to find that when you roll your window down, it hits the speaker, though in a Cheyenne I doubt that'll be much of a problem.

My $.02, hope it helps.

Was/is your trick cutting the dash opening so you can fit the mounting can for a newer style DIN deck in there? That isn't exactly a diffictult thing to do, and it would only limit your options if you did not have an air saw or similar to cut out the dash...

cheyenneboy remember when you are out amp shopping that your Kappa's are 2 ohm speakers. Make sure that the amp you get does not put out too much power at 2 ohms (enough to exceede the power rating on your kappas).
