so im new here a friend got me on this site, and i have 2 questions, as you will be able to tell im new to the whole car audio thing

1) the speakers in my rear door dont work at all, i took part of the door panel off today, and they are hooked up, there is no noise at all coming from them, so i dont think they are both blown, im the 2nd owner of the vehicle and i was wondering if maybe somebody had them bypassed or what, i would appreciate any advice on what my next step should be, im replacing them anyway but would like to know if there is anything i need to do special when/before installing them

2)if heard stuff recently about winding your altanator and it being better for your system, i was wondering what affect/ if any this would have on sound quality or overall on my vehicle/ system

like i said, im new to all this stuff and would like to start doing alot of my work myself instead of relying on friends since i will be moving out of the area soon, thanks for any feedback

there are a lot of reasons for a speaker not to work.......Can't answer that without more info.... what are (were) they hooked up to, does the other side work? what else are you replacing....

as for question #2.... again, what do you have in there?

thanks alot,

1) both sides are factory speakers and neither side works at all

2) right now i have a component set in the front door, 3 mtx 6000 10"s and a 1200 watt sony amp and a fairly small bazooka amp, however im going to put 2 15" avalance subs in there and probaly push them with 1000d amps

1) What is/was powering them? Headunit? Did they ever work?

2)I'm a fan of having an alternator "rewound" I think it's a fine idea. I know others on this forum are going to tell you there are reliability issues with that. I've never experienced it though. I will agree with them that a new higher output alt is a better idea... Some guys on here know where to get em pretty cheap too.

i have an alpine headunit that i put in it the day after i bought it, so to my knowledge they havent worked since ive had it

and ive heard of the rewinding, but like i said, im new to all this and dont really know what all else you were talking about, and how would i go about rewinding it?

again, your help is greatly appreciated

Grab a nine-volt and solder some wires onto the 2 terminals.... then touch those wires (+ and - respectively) to the green/green black wires (for left rear) & then the purple/purple black wires (for right rear) and have a friend listen for a popping noise @ the rear speakers. If you hear a pop each time you complete your circuit then the speaker is fine & the wires are in tact the whole way back. Then it's definately the output on your headunit. If that doesnt work take the speakers out and try to pop them right @ the speaker's + and - leads. If it pops, you know the wires just aren't hooked up. g/l

oh yeah this might sound stupid, but ive seen it done before, check the fade in the CD player, make sure that the fade isnt all the way forward. At the shop that i work at I've actually had customers come in and say that rear speakers dont work, when really they just have the CD player's fade all the way forward.

no i know the fade is even, im not that new, because the speakers in the far rear roof work fine and factory, my buddy, BDIDDY, lives near by and i guess me and him will just take it apart and look at it, just checking on quick answers online because its been raining like hell around here and havent ahd the time with it like this, but thanks for all everyones help, and advice on the alt. question still needed, thanks again
