I'm quitting smoking. What helped u?

Self control.
I broke my habitual patterns first. For instance, every time I got into my car, cigarette. Before going to work, cigarette. Lunch hour, cigarette. Leaving work, cigarette. I'd skip a few of those here and there, I started to break the habit that I had formed. My strong cravings only really lasted for the first week, after that I was pretty much in the clear.

It's only been a month now, but after the first week, just seeing how much easier it was to breathe, that was enough for me to stay off em for good.

There was this guy I talked to that said he always had a pack of cigarettes in his car when he was quitting. If he TRULY wanted to smoke he could, they were right there. He made kind of a game or competition with it, see ok I'm going to go 12 hours without one, then 1 day,, then 1 week etcetera. I think that's a smart way because 1) most guys don't like having their options limited 2) it creates competition. Me personally I"m more competitive with myself then I am against other people.

 
Get into a healthy lifestyle, go running, hit the gym, eat healthy.
i actually do have a healthier lifestyle. i'm on a 1500 cal diet. and i do go to the gym. my running is on the treadmill w/teh ipod. but i am leading myself in the right direction. it's just that initiative to quit smoking that will get me. in my head i want it. but i dont want it, want it.

i think what i am going to do is. set a date, that is the day i will quit. and i will sorta ween myself off of them up to that day. and whatever point i'm at on that day. no matter what it is. i will quit. not much of a plan, but it is something.

i really decided that i just pretty much want to live a full healthy life. i dad died at the age of 42. he set a date he was going to quit. which was going to be right after his bi-pass done. he died literally 2 days b4 he was to have it done. so i want to be there for my kids and not end up killing myself b/c i am a dumbass. i have the mind-set and reasons to quit. but it's just the first step that is going to get me.

do you think my plan will work?

 
hey man just go buy herbal cigarettes and your good to guy. no harmful tobacco or nicotene. I switch bout every week or two from normal ciggs to herbal. cant really tell a difference and they are really good.

 
will power helped the most = really not wanting to smoke anymore knowing it's a waste of money and is hell for your lungs. It also doesn't help with stress at all.

When I stopped smoking, I did a small 2 day program

1st day, I would make ONE cig last the whole day. Take two or three puffs and then turn it off. Before then, I didn't know that 2 puffs can easily satisfy the "crave". A few hours later, I would like the same cig and take 2 - 3 more puffs.

2nd day, I would do the same but with only 1/2 a cig.

No more after that.
