I'm quitting smoking. What helped u?

did it on my own will... gotta **** it up... your the only one that can ultimately help you

my dad spent thousands of dollars and tons and tons of hours trying things out... he said in the long run, nothing helped him either, had to do it on his own will

Will Power!!
This is most important. You gotta want to quit - there's no half-assed half way.

I used the patch - works for most folks, but I only used it for 4 days, then went cold. Like I said you have to want to quit. If you REALLY want to quit, you won't need any assistance from anything.

It's been 9 years now...

I've been smoking for 20 years, and quit 5 months ago. I used Chantix to help me. I do not chew gum, but I eat candy bars instead( the little mini ones). Yes, I gained 15 pounds or so, but thats ok with me. Without the will to do it though, it will not happen, period. I just got tired of setting my life around smoking, and dont want my daughter to see me smoking as she grows up, plus 4.50 a pack is entirely too much to pay.

has anyone taking chantix experienced any of this shit

Important Safety Information

Some people have had changes in behavior, hostility, agitation, depressed mood, suicidal thoughts or actions while using CHANTIX to help them quit smoking. Some people had these symptoms when they began taking CHANTIX, and others developed them after several weeks of treatment or after stopping CHANTIX. If you, your family, or caregiver notice agitation, hostility, depression, or changes in behavior, thinking, or mood that are not typical for you, or you develop suicidal thoughts or actions, anxiety, panic, aggression, anger, mania, abnormal sensations, hallucinations, paranoia, or confusion, stop taking CHANTIX and call your doctor right away. Also tell your doctor about any history of depression or other mental health problems before taking CHANTIX, as these symptoms may worsen while taking CHANTIX.

dont most of those emotions come with quitting smoking anyways????

I heard all those things about chantix as well. Way I figured, screw it, quitting is important enough for me to risk it. The odds are with you that those things wont happen to you.

Self control.

I broke my habitual patterns first. For instance, every time I got into my car, cigarette. Before going to work, cigarette. Lunch hour, cigarette. Leaving work, cigarette. I'd skip a few of those here and there, I started to break the habit that I had formed. My strong cravings only really lasted for the first week, after that I was pretty much in the clear.

It's only been a month now, but after the first week, just seeing how much easier it was to breathe, that was enough for me to stay off em for good.
