I'm moving in the spring

Haha me too.
Pittsburgh has a metro of about 2.5 million. Only about 800k live in SD.

I like having town close, but when it's all said and done I want some space too.

It's a bitch getting around in the city.

I live just on the city limits now, gunshots in every direction, nah mean?

Haha, I want that house that you can leave the doors unlocked.

Well I lived in Detroit most of my life which has a metro population of about 4.5 million, then I moved to northern Michigan, where my current town is 1100 and it gets old quick. We have lots of pretty trees, lakes, rivers, hills and all that good shit, but none of the conveniences of the city. I have to drive 80 miles one way just for a shopping mall.

Haha, well I'll be living in Rapid City. They have all the amentities that you would need there.

Shopping malls, and the like are all there.

There may not be quite the selection that I have in Pittsburgh, but I don't need/want for much man.

I'm not living 80 miles outside of town. There enough population in Rapid City to support all the retail places.

Rapid City is also a central hub for western Nebraska, Northeast Wyoming, Southeast Montana, Southwest North Dakota.

There's 150k in RC's metro area.

my state is boring as shit. i have to drive like 45 miles to get to the good places in this state. i grew up in a small town all my life 6000 some people. hardly any crime. like one of those drive through towns basically.

Like I said I don't want for much.

I ain't much for going out at night. Just work and maybe hitting the mountains and countryside on my day off.

Those were my thoughts at first, but it got old after awhile. I liked living in Detroit during the week, and coming north on weekends. That is what a lot of people do here.

Also, how did you setup a job? I've been thinking of moving to Minneapolis, but have no idea how to get a job in another state.

So I have a couple question to ask, maybe the people who have been thru a similar experience.
The girlfriend and I are looking to move out west after growing up in Pennsylvania all our lives.

Financially we will be ok and have a respectable amount of money saved up.

What would be your plan of action of obtaining a temporary place to live?

Keep in mind we won't actually be able to spend any time out there between now and when we move.

If you've shared this type of experience please feel free to give me some pointers.

Thank you

Haha, definately.
You ever head out into the Loess Hills region?

CT
I haven't but i've visited Tuscon, Arizona when i was younger to see my grandparents, was a family vacation that winter. felt so good to get out of Iowa i remember, seeing mountains and cactus;s and experiencing a different feel of temps was almost euphoric.

I'm very glad to hear that everything has worked out for you
Thanks bro, means a lot.

I'm a butcher, so I have a skilled trade.

Do you have a trade at all?

Or a skill, experience, degree?

I just cold called some places, let them know approximately what time I will be coming out. That's about all you can do, get a resume together and all that. People are reasonable, you know?

If it's meant to be you will find work.

I am hellbent on moving out there though, so I would've taken a gas station job out there before I could find a more profitable venture.

Black Hills are absolutely amazing. Turkey hunted there last Spring. I could definitely live out there. Rapid City was larger than I expected.

More than likely I will be going back this May turkey hunting in the Black Hills right next to Wyoming. Just beautiful country with wildlife galore.

Yeah, hunting looks like a big thing out there.

I'm not much of a hunter, never have been.

But, being a butcher I get to see the aftermath of hunting.

If you shoot it, I'll cut it.
