I'm moving in the spring

nebraska is pretty much what youre describing. up in the northwest theres actually a national forest and in the extreme west by the colorado border are actually the edges of the rockies
The Nebraska National Forest is a pretty cool item.

It's actually all man made forest, which is cool. I don't know about the line about the Rockies, although there are a couple of escarpments out there and things like Scotts Bluff and Chimney rock.

Thank you for your reply though bro

I used to live in Rapid City. I liked it. As far as housing, try looking up Kari Stevens. She's a realtor there (or used to be anyway). I used to be really good friends with her son. It's worth a shot. And the weather there isn't bad at all IIRC. It's DEFINITELY better than Wiscosnin weather anyway. Housing wan't too bad when I lived there(but that was 10 years ago, so it could have changed a lot). Shouldn't be too hard to find work as a butcher around there, with all the hunting and ranches. Don't know about nursing though. If you have any specific questions, I'll try to help you out as much as I can.
Thank you for your reply bud.

its nothing big, but last time i checked an elevation map, the very edge of the rockies (small mountains) passed through the western-most counties here.

Haha, like I said, Pine Ridge is a small escarpment, but it's not related geologically to the Rockies.

Colorado, just for reference

That's not the Rockies, thats just the elevation of the plains out there bro.

From the easternmost point of the state to the westernmost point it is on a gradual upslope towards the rockies. There aren't any real mountains unless you head north to the Black Hills, or west into CO/WY to the Rocky Mountain Front Range.

Haha me too.

Pittsburgh has a metro of about 2.5 million. Only about 800k live in SD.

I like having town close, but when it's all said and done I want some space too.

It's a bitch getting around in the city.

I live just on the city limits now, gunshots in every direction, nah mean?

Haha, I want that house that you can leave the doors unlocked.
