I'm looking at an '06 Mitsubishi Lancer ES...

Huh? You want him to check into something that has more miles on it?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif
say a certified accord with ~50k miles on it. the hit has already been taken by someone else. and it will be plenty reliable. if not its under warranty. resell will be great too

As far as student loans go, I'll have very little of that. I have tuition payed plus 10,000 for whatever else already in scholarships, and I haven't even gotten word back from FAFSA yet. I have enough in college savings to cover the rest without the government help anyway. The down payment for this car will come out of that money.

Will car salesmen take me seriously if I just go by myself? I mean, because I'm 18 they might think I'm not serious about getting something and I'm just wasting their time or something.

And I guess I'll try to find something else...

Mitsubishi has the worst reliability rating of all Japenese cars--look it up yourself at consumer reports or jd power. Also, resale is horrible on them.

Resale is bad but the Lancers are very reliable(moreso than the eclipse/galant), i was parts manager at a mitsu dealership for 3 years.
