I'm inFInitely Baffled.

the dash mat was actually bought like that. I got it off of ebay. It helped w/ the stage height a lot. It suppose to stop soundwaves from reflecting back and forth form the dash and windshield. My stage was very low before I added the mat.
Is the mat a must? cause my stage height is pretty good, i mean it can be better. as soon as I get a better deck with better tuning options. I realize its better for it do be achieved "naturally" but is there any other reasons it should be not(or be) used.

you can buy them for most cars. pretty common thing actually. just kinda ugly //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

if i could get one in suede maybe i would roll with it. but in all actuality IB is just as easy as building a ported box. just make a template for the trunk opening, cut holes, mount to trunk opening, seal holes with foam\silicone.

i dunno. you retain pretty much all trunkspace, and can fit two 15's easy, and if you get tricky, you can do four 15's or two 18's.

if my buddy gets back from tampa by friday, then i will be working on an IB this weekend with two aura NS15-992-4A's in my buddy Dtours honda civic. it should be interesting because them suckers weigh in at a hefty 44.5 pounds and 11.5 inches deep. they are some heavy and large bastards for being neo based.

we shall see.

Well, since I'm running horns, I may have a bigger problem with stage height than those who aren't using horns. Either way, it should help stop the reflections, which would help in any setup. some don't use the dash mats because they don't like the look. I don't think it look bad at all.

I recently met a guy, buzzdg from diyma, and he went as far as putting a strip of eggcrate foam across the edge where the dash meets the windshield... and I have to say, his system is one of the best i've heard.

1. So there is no tuning involved(thats required)? ( as far as EQ'ing goes)

2. Does the power handling of sub go down when goin IB?

3. As long as the sub is sealed off from the trunk, Im good to go?

4. Is the output decent?

5. Do you know off the top of your head if the Mag is capable of being in an IB application?

1. EQing is optional. for sub, boosting is not suggested.

2. commonly power handling will drop, but the driver will be more efficient.

3. yes

4. in my case, output is more than enough me and keeps up w/ the horns easily... but i'm not a basshead.

5. SI used 4 15"s IB in a HT setup

4. I am not a bass head by any means, but id like for it to keep up with alternative music. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

5. Im worried about it having too much air space in the trunk.

I would surely suggest it. there are sooo many upsides to it.

but I think that you should try to finish your current plan/build first. listen to it for a while, take a bunch of pics, THEN you tear it out and go IB //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

megalo - even though james beat me, heres my 2 cents

1. really, eq for a sub is all personal prefrence, in actuality, this alignment eq's itself because it will use the FR graph (well close to it) of the speaker since there is no enclosure compliance. most speakers roll off quite smooth and down to ~20hz on the graph, but when introduced in a sealed or ported box, they gain SPL and usually a peak here or there. in IB, its just a flat response down and a smooth rolloff. go model it 10xVAS in WINisd. you will see //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

2. sure does, but then again - there is the law of 3. with a subwoofer you can only have two of the following; low fr, high power handeling, or small box.

now ask yourself, (with regards to practicality) what are the best things to have in a subwoofer? in my oppinion SMALL box (or no box lol), need for LESS watts, and highest extention from 20hz up. and in my oppinion, lower powerhandeling is not an important figure when choosing a speaker - high heat dissapation and efficency are. the less power i need for a given setup the better!! so IB will go down to the low frequencies, usually tend to be able to play above 100hz and hit that midbass pretty well, you dont need as much raw wattage because there is no enclosure compliance (backpressure), and its just one board.

3. yes //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

4. in a short awnser, no. output usually is lower than that of a sealed box. but that is why personally i make up for it with cone area. thats the beautiful thing about this - in 99% of cars, you can fit a pair of 15's without taking virtually any trunk space. and if you design it right (with nuts and bolts sans glue) you might be able to remove the whole baffle for a skiing trip and put it back in when you are done, or a trip to home depot to buy those closet doors that wont fit in your sedan unless the seats are folded. so IMO - its still better because you can use more drivers to make up for the loss in SPL and not burden your car with a 150lb box. my two 15's and the baffle are maybe 60~70 pounds.

5. yes. i hear the mag can work ib //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif

Thank you for the insight. but i got more questions.

Lets say I take the baffle and screw/bolt them it, BUT dont seal it off with like great stuff for permanent. what if i sealed it off from the front using just Damplifier? or does it have to be very rigid as possible? like going over the damplifier with spectrum...You understand what I am saying?

more rigid = better, but its all about sealing the backwave.

your best bet is to use some cheap 1\4" press board to fill any larger holes and then deaden over it. or just lay down masking tape over the section and squirt expandable foam there. the masking tape provides a means of removal for the foam later on if needed.

in all reality, you only need to seal it up like 95% of the way. just seal off the biggest things and listen //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

but between the baffle and the car- put a open cell squishy foam seal... like that window seal crap.

Does an infinite baffle have to be separated into to halves. For example I have a truck could a build a stand that the sub would fit into but wasnt actually a box more like a single piece of square mdf held up by some mdf posts
