I'm addicted... (TC or SI?)

In my opinion, a lot of people claiming the 5400 are the most accurate drivers ever are:a) Employees at TC Sounds

b) Friends of Employees at TC Sounds

c) Fans of the company who have never heard the driver

Of course, I haven't heard the driver myself, but I would venture that while BL and Cms compression is pretty slim to none, there are simply zero high xmax drivers that I have considered the most accurate. There are certain disadvantages of a large coil (particularly the very large ones used on the LMS drivers) that are just hard to beat.

If I were to pick a sub that was the most accurate, it would likely be something underhung, like the Aura MR's, which give you adequate Xmax, low inductance, and relatively flat BL; the only downside is the cost, but if you're considering the LMS-5400's, I doubt that's an issue. There is something to be said for low inductance, low Mms designs.
The Aura's are definitely something I have considered and they are very appealing. The problem is that I almost think an Aura MR18 would be a downgrade in volume to what I have now. And that just isn't something I'm willing to take.

And perhaps most importantly, there is even less experience with the Aura's to go around than with the LMS. It would be close to a shot in the dark.

Oh by the way, this is from the Aura website talking about their MR series subwoofers, so take it for what it's worth:

The cones are made of aluminum alloy, which has a much higher stiffness-to-weight ratio than traditional paper or polypropylene cones. This allows the cones to resist deformation in small enclosures and to withstand the abuse of competition use. It also allows the cones to operate as true pistons at all power levels ensuring the best performance from whisper levels to thundering SPL contests.
Might I also add that the Aura MR18 has a 4" voice coil and 2.5inch excursion, not so dissimilar to the LMS.

the aura 12 was a very nice sub //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
Yes and your review of it is very enticing, yet it is the only one to be found - anywhere. Would have been great if you could do some SPL tests on it with a ported box. Oh well. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Ive yet to hear something more accurate. But for the time being its top dog. Am i saying its the best thing since sliced bread, no. I know there are far more accurate drivers out there. But one thing they have a hard time doing is getting into the 140's like every crazy person on here expects from any sub.

The 5400 can do that.

P.S

Why would I badmouth something I own //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Wouldve been awesome in that sprite donk //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

What complete and total hogwash. Again, compressed pulp paper has a higher stiffness-to-weight ratio, that's common knowledge.

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif I just purchased some TC 1000's because of the sale. Sounds like Si BM would have performed much better? Would the difference be considerable in a small sealed box? I finaly got everything hooked up and the TC 1000's hit really low considering my small sealed enclosure, but I think I liked the way my Assassin Sounded better and wish I could have found a second 10"... I don't care about the way these woofers perform in ported boxes because I'm after SQ and have limited space.

When you say paper is best, what about other materieals like used in the DLS Nobelliums? I'm a Paper fan myself, even if it does have disadvantages like breaking down faster or issues in high humidity envoronments.

You would probably notice a difference in sound but probably nothing dramatic.

The materials used in the DLS midranges would not withstand the abuse that your average subwoofer is given. Plus its very expensive.

DLS makes a Nobellium Subwoofer that is supposed to have Amazing SQ.

The only logical step now is to turn this thread into a flame war about potheads.
