Just to stir the pot a bit, pulp paper cones actually give the best mass/weight to strength performance of any material currently being used for speaker cones. Makes you wonder why some manufacturers are 'upgrading' to fancy newer materals like alum and titanium. (hint: marketing)

This is not to say alum and tit cone subs cannot or do not perform well, they certain can and do. But sometimes I read these cone breaking threads and just wonder why the industry is even at this point.

To be honest fellas, I'm not super concerned about either companies business practices. I am going to buy a sub(s) and that will be it, unless I have to get it repaired. As long as they don't steal my money or break my sub it doesn't concern me.
Right now I am leaning towards the 18" 5400 because of a few people's experiences with it. Supposedly it is the most accurate driver they have ever heard by a long shot, and the more I think about it the more I want to have maximum SQ and being loud is only a secondary thing, more for fun on special occasions. Also I have to admit there is a certain appeal to having a big shiney 18" woofer, but maybe that is just me.

Of course just because I am leaning one way doesn't mean I'm not considering all opinions. Besides, it will be a couple weeks before I buy anything, and the LMS isn't even available at the moment.

In my opinion, a lot of people claiming the 5400 are the most accurate drivers ever are:

a) Employees at TC Sounds

b) Friends of Employees at TC Sounds

c) Fans of the company who have never heard the driver

Of course, I haven't heard the driver myself, but I would venture that while BL and Cms compression is pretty slim to none, there are simply zero high xmax drivers that I have considered the most accurate. There are certain disadvantages of a large coil (particularly the very large ones used on the LMS drivers) that are just hard to beat.

If I were to pick a sub that was the most accurate, it would likely be something underhung, like the Aura MR's, which give you adequate Xmax, low inductance, and relatively flat BL; the only downside is the cost, but if you're considering the LMS-5400's, I doubt that's an issue. There is something to be said for low inductance, low Mms designs.

Again, we don't know all of the facts or all of the agreements between TC and Eclipse. So it is again pure speculation that TC is breaking any trademark/etc laws by using those cones.

It is very odd that we didnt see any of the threads posted about the the eclipse cone breaking, and then as soon as tc comes out with a house brand it started popping up every other day about surround separatig from the cone, or the cone denting and falling to pieces

I would like to see how many threads you could actually find about the cones failing. I highly doubt it's one every day...I doubt you could even find one every week or even every month.

But TC admitted they had a problem with one of their runs and extended the warranty/offered free non-warranty work on those drivers;
