If I wanted to build a kick *** HT?

Hey man,

I love home audio, well any audio for that matter. The best way to start and help save you time, money, and headaches, is to start with a really good source unit. Start from the source and work your way down. Source, pre amp, amp, speakers, should be the order to focus on. What kind of budget are you looking to spend?

Maybe if you're an audiophile who spends his trust fund on zynthium plated triple twisted walrus whisker bi-amp speaker cables, otherwise, spending lots of money on a source and amplifier isn't necessary. A good CD player and receiver is all you need for that. Put the money into the speakers, and if you REALLY get involved, then go seperates.

TV should not be in the equation IMO. If you want "kick ***" then a projector is the only way to go. NOTHING is as impressive as a BIG screen. Followed by a killer sub, then speakers. Center channel is the most important speaker. Go DIY for the sub...

maybe in all I would spend 1800-2000 in all. but I would rather take my time and buy 1 piece at a time. not really any timeline but I would like to begin getting it together soon. As far as everything I would like it to match and what would be a nice reciever, amp, and cd player combo.

I dissagree IMO. My buddy has a big, expensive projector HD and on most programming it looks like poo! Still blurry and I don't know, just can't get into it.

To the OP, what are you looking for more? Sound or picture? If you go both, it will be expensive off the bat. Me, I went with TV, then sound. Still in the midst of redoing my sound as I want some better equipment.

well seeing as I throw some major parties I want to be able to play music loudly. so Im looking for sound more than picture.

How much room do you have? If you have the space my vote goes with a pair of BIB's using 12" drivers with a second one in the inside baffle for a extra boost of horn loaded low end. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Do you already have a TV that you would like to use... or is a new TV going to be part of the process as well?
nG
basically Im starting from scratch. I have a tv. but as far as reciever and amp and cd player I have nothing. I just need some ideas on matching equipment.

If you don't mind buying used, go to audiogon.com and check out the rotel pieces. You can pick up a 1068 processor, 1072 cd player and a 1075 5 channel amp for probably close to $1500-1800 (minus cabling). Amazing equipement that you definitely won't be disapointed with. Most people on audiogon know how to take care of their equipement too, not all, but most, so you can usually pick up some really nice gear. As far as speakers, check out some of the entry lines of B&W, paridigm, or Klipsch, depending on what kind of sound your looking for.
