If car is totalled, can i take my stereo stuff?

I just totaled my car about 2 weeks ago. I riped everything out of it. I took my battery terminal off and took my headunit out of it and just left the open dash. The insurance company never said anything about it and nothing power in the car even worked because the battery was disconnected.

stereo equipment effects the value of a car on a total loss work sheet...when cars are valued, all options are taken into consideration...in your case the option for CUSTOM A/M AUDIO SYSTEM would be used, this adds a point rating to the final value, not much, but in most cases if there is no H/U and Speakers it will change the value a couple hundred dollars depending on the age of the vehicle...
if the insurance company has already seen the car, and written a value on it based on what is inside the car, no you CANNOT remove the items...

if they have yet to see it, then yes, you can take out whatever you like, just keep in mind it may make the difference between an extra $300-500 based on the age...if its newer (2000+), its a big deal, if its older, it matters very little...

in most cases we'll let people take the subs and amps and just mark it down as a mid grade custom a/m setup...

although keep in mind some companies have a "bolted down" law, if it's bolted down, it's theirs...
This is the post the OP should pay most attention to as it is correct.

however,

you had an electrical fire...
and it was enough to total the car...

yet all the HU, subs and amp etc are okay?

what kind of car is this?
this puzzles teh mind.

It's yours, pretty sure you can take it out. I did the last time my car was totaled. However, you mentioned this was an electrical fire and that they are still investigating it? If thats the case, I would take pictures of everything, and wait until they have finished their investigation before you remove anything. As a poster above me mentioned, how the heck did all your stereo stuff survive an electrical fire anyways?

it wasent like a horrible raging fire. there was small flames near the headlight harness under the battery and all of the grounds under the hood were fryed. the whole engine harness, headlight harness and other shit is fryed. insurance looks at price of new harness from GM which is around 2k alone. i called today mechanic said i cant take shit out right now. i heard the total damages were 4700. they are debating to total it i think they will. i kinda hope they do so i get money back then im gonna save up for a even newer car because i have a better job now. and use our shitty spare car for a while

lmao i lol'd

but on a serious note. . . that sounds like a mechanical problem which made your car not functional, not because you had an accident or anything. . . i didnt know insurance companys covered this. . . . . .

no it was electrical. and someone said "what ever is bolted down...." amp and sub isnt bolted down. im not letting that go, i could give a shit about the deck.

Yes, esp. if it is aftermarket. If not show them reciepts and they have to refund you if they say you can't take it out which I dont think they can do. Find out where your car is go there and remove the stuff SOON
