Will the insurance company let me take my stereo shit out of they claim my car totalled? I had an electrical fire and they are still ripping stuff apart but im 99% sure they are claiming it totalled. i was gonna stop by tomorrow and ask the mechanic if i can take my shit out. is there a law i have to leave whatever is in there, in there?

i've totalled one car before and i was only able to take subs/amps out. had to leave hu and speakers in it since the car comes with them. not sure if i was lied to or not or if that applies to everywhere, but that's what i had to do.

did you have stock hu and speaks? i have rear 6.5's but i dont care about those i just want the deck, sub and amp

i see no reason why they wouldnt... doesnt seem right that they would just write off your personal effects with the car...

you probably shouldnt tell the insurance company what it is that you are removing though. probably wouldnt look good to let them know the fire most likely started with the stuff you added to the car.

If they ***** about having to have a headunit and speakers then you can always switch them out with some crap, or the oem stuff if you have it laying around. And don't worry if the speakers are covered by grilles.

after work tomorrow im gonna stop by and tell the mechanic and ill give the fire guy from insruance a call. i cant switch stuff out cuz its at my mechanic right now.

I was always under the impression that anything you put into the car that was aftermarket you could take. And if you replaced something with aftermarket, just take your aftermarket item and toss the OEM one into the car somewhere.

My first car got totalled, and I took out all my LED lights n such, and my aftremarket fenders, but I put my stock fenders in the trunk to make insurance happy.

You can get away with other little stuff, like take the badges off it for keepsakes.. I forgot to do that and I regret it to this day. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Be careful, too, people WILL steal your stuff if they know it's there. SOBs took my amp main power, a 36" neon, and some LED tubes.

Good luck!

If your stereo is covered under your policy you need to ask for permission because they will likely consider it their property.

Go to the shop and take pictures of all the equipment!

If it is covered, they will probably make a payout to you, but you should be able to buy it back from them with some money left over.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

If your stereo wasnt covered, get it out ASAP before someone else does.

when i totaled my car, i took out everything that i put in there, hu, subs, and intake. when the insurance took the car, it had the stock radio that wasnt mounted, just sitting there, the a pillars were lying around, there was no intake. but i talked to my mechanic who had my car there, he said that if its anything that you put on the car, then you can take it out. so i went later on and started tearing apart the car taking my stuff out lol.
