IDmax sounds like crap

have a idmax 12 d4 v3 in a 1.3 cu ft sealed box running off a infinity reference 1211a amp. 854 watts at 4 ohm and 1300 watts at 2 ohm. my problem is is that the sub is not loud at all and when it finally does get loud i get lots of distortion and what sounds like the sub is bottoming out. i have read both coils on the sub and they read 4.3-4.6. i wire the sub up and check my ohms at the amp and im seeing 2.2-2.5 at the amp. My headlights dim real bad at night and like i said its not loud at all but when it does get loud its crappy. Can some one give me some ideas here.

i am but i would think this sub would perform better than whats its doing. i mean its not loud at all. maybe hitting 90-100db at the dash!

I had this same problem with a Brahma when I was told to put it in a large sealed box. I filled about .5 cu ft then spl and sq greatly improved. power handleing improves as well. If you listen mostly to rap, you might wana port it.

It would probably sound better in .8 cubes or just port it

leaky box? Didn't screw in tight enough? Do you have sound deadening?

box isnt leaking. i got a guy coming down next week to build me a ported box thats 2.7 cubes@28hz. is it possible that i am pulling so much juice that i am losing alot of amps amd starving the amp? The clip light doesnt come on any.

I simply hate the sound of large sealed box's, They seem to be very inefficient to me. You really need to build a nice ported box to spec. Night and day! Otherwise go with .8 sealed as said. Youll deff see the difference

well according to ID this is the normal size for a sealed box.

What are the settings on for your amp? make sure you have your x-over set correctly, and no bass-boost. You wont' have major spl w/ that setup, but the sq should be there.

also, what are to doing to it to make it finally get loud as you say?

Thats what Adire told me with my last setup... And to meet my needs they were wrong. Car audio is dependant only on the listener. You must go smaller if you want decent output from a sealed box.

^ very important. u want your xover set to low pass, and your filter set like 80-100 and below
