id max question

A guy is trying to talk me into buying some id max v2 d4. I already have one of the id max v3 d4. Also he says that it is the id max v2 d4 and it is just as good. I do not know much about the id maxs but from what I do know is that they do not come in v2's. The v2's are the idq's. Am I wrong about this. Please help.

To have a v3 (version 3) such as yours, there would obviously at some point in time have to be both a v1 and a v2 (version 1 and version 2) //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

v2 means that it is an older model. There is an IDMax v1, IDmax v2 and IDmax v3, with the v3 presently being the most current production model (there are a few prototype IDmax v4's). Give me a minute and I can dig up the specific differences between the v2's and the v3's.

Ok, here are the differences per Fred Lynch, formerly of Image Dynamics (and now an employee of Arc Audio):

one thing we al lneed to rememebr is there is a lot of v.3/2's out there that are all from recones etc.... as far as production units brand new of the line the differences is...

V.1 - Sand cast basket = less accurate dimensionally,

not as smooth

less defination in the basket shape

one piece cone

yes the surround was slightly smaller

soldered tinsils

1st generation bifloridian coil cooling design

pigment rate lower on the powder coat

1st generation spider

v.2 - same as v.1 except

newer taller surround, also slightly stiffer

crimped tinsils

new gluing techniques

new glue and adhesives applied

new spider

V.3 - Pressure cast basket = extremely accurate in dimension

higher pigment powder coat

machined mounting surfaces

high detail in design

more defination in design

much stronger than sand cast

Introduction of the D2, D3, D4 coil applications

New assembly process

new radiator design

aluminum dustcap

composite pulp cone

new surround

new spider

new tinsel to terminal junction assembly process

new spider landing application

there are a few more things to it but those can be left in the design books and not on the forum

Vas is just one of the T/S parameters.

But, just as an FYI: Most people agree that the v2's and v3's do not sound the same. Some say it's a small difference, some say it's a large difference; but almost everybody says there is an audible difference between the two.
