IB Setup configuration?

<-- Yes, that's me.
I'm wanting a project for my car - so I'm going with modifying it to go to an IB setup. Wasn't sure which manner to do this.

Take it onto the rear deck, facing up against the rear window? I was thinking this would imitate a hatchback, and give me the most volume.

Should I put it in between the rear seats? As in, cut out the middle portion, put the sub in, and have a grill, probably felt covered to match the car's color, over it? So it'd be facing the front dash. I wondered if this might look a bit strange, as I want to use the two rear seats, but I'm only mounting a single 10".

Which is ideal? I'm thinking the first, as that will give me more upgrade options later - I'd have the room to mount two twelves later, but then again, by the time

I upgrade, I might either have a new car, or I won't care about the rear seats. Second would be easier to install, so.

I can post pictures up in a bit, to show more of what I mean.

For my second proposal here - to take out that middle armrest, cut out a bit more to make an even 10" circle, and mount the sub against wood going across the back. It'd be set probably 3-4 inches in, with a grill flush with the seat, and probably tan colored felt over the grill, so it's not so hard.

The rear deck, for the first proposal. I have enough room to go with a 10" sub mounted in the middle, and if I upgraded later on (that is, however, questionable as to whether any of this will matter then), I'd have enough room to remove the rear speakers, and go with 3 ten's, or two twelves, or something along those lines. The problem with this, though, is I'd be doing some cutting up of the sheet metal on the rear deck.

can your rear seats fold down? if so, here is my setup. very smooth response response and can get loud also //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif i'm redoing the trunk right now, so nevermind the shitty amp rack //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

trial and error. a.k.a shut up and do it. stop being like a little pansy like 95% of this forum
Problem is my seats don't fold down. Either way is pretty irreversible.

My seats won't fold down, and I want to keep seats on the sides, so basically, imagine a ten inch cut out, with a grill over the top, in the middle, in the center of the rear seats. I like yours ragnarok, but I still need the rear seats, sadly.

The sub would be set about three inches below the flush line with the seats.

Alternative is just to cut a hole in the rear deck, mount it there, but two considerations with that deter me - one, easier to see, might attract someone who wants a sub, second, I have to cut out the metal, while on the other, I'll be doing a lot of bolting and screwing through metal, I won't actually have to cut a ring through it. But, it'd leave the entirety of the rear seats open.

I can do either - but I want to know what someone else would do in this case.

I have 2 12" FI X series IB in my Celica. It doesn't matter where the subs are mounted as long as the front wave is sealed off from the rear. I built a baffle behind the seat and sealed it up.

My seat also does not fold but the bass is just as loud with the seat in place.

Remember a IB setup is not for SPL but a SQ. I sm running the sub channel from a Fosgate Power 1000 at 4 ohms for 300w RMS and it does hit hard and DEEP!

Lots of room left in the trunk also!

Well, I'm going with a rear deck setup. Decided that cutting up the rear seats and attempting to keep them was going to be a bit of a pain, because I couldn't replace any leather adequately to make it look neat. Cutting the deck up is a pain, I'll probably just cut a square section of holes, take out the piece, and board it up with a layer or two of 3/4" MDF, and seal off the rest of the sections of the deck and rear seats with caulk.

Probably start up a build thread, if I decide to take pictures.

Just wanted to add here that I cut my whole in the rear deck - it was thick enough that I had to drill a ring of holes, then go back over and get the gaps between them with a larger drill bit, and then clip the last few connections between the hole and the rest of the deck.

Was going to start cutting out my wood baffle, but it was about 4 in the morning, and I didn't want to play around with a jigsaw then. Didn't want to lose a finger.

Gone for the weekend, but I'm planning on finishing it when I get back.

To give you an idea... I'm gunna make a front baffle, much like ragnaroksq, except since my driver is taller than the height of my trunk (I have a short trunk, the tallest part is 15". I'm gunna angle the top part of the baffle, and then use weather stripping and caulk and what not to seal off the main parts, as well as expandable foam on the sides (where people run their wires, inbetween the cab and the outer skin), then put some wood there, and seal it up. I'm gunna line my whole trunk with wood, and make sure it's nice and sealed, then I'm going to make an amp-rack sort of deal... so there's gunna be wood all across my trunk... perfect for an urban mural. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
