IA 40.1, optima, nsb90, 250A alt, still not enough,

i may be mistaken, but 2 channel at .5 ohms is 0.25 ohms isnt it? correct me if im wrong though, i've never ran that low before.

duece may have a point though, how were your batteries/alternator wired up? how many runs between batteries? also, no big 3 on a 250amp alternator isnt doing you much good, you need bigger wire to have more output, so stock 8 guage on a 250amp alernator probably wasnt much of an improvement

So this is just a 1 channel amp with 4 outputs?

I have an alt without the big 3, I took that out bc I am getting a new car. But I Wanted a temp setup to drive to texas. I have 2/0 welding wire to back batt and I have 2 runs a piece in 0 gauge to posi and negi

edit- so if I hook up the subs at .5 it will make the amp see .25? I dont understand

i dont know much about 40.1's, so im not exactly sure what load you achieved with how you wired it the second time, someone else that knows for sure will chime in on that

but, how is a 250amp alternator supposed to help you at all if you have stock alternator wiring? that prolly has a part in the situation

I am not saying that the alt is helping, I understand that so much current can go through so much wire. I am not saying it is helping. I just am trying to figure out how it kept going into protection and the SOB fried.

ya gotta put two and two together //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

you had the equivalance of a stock alternator with stock wiring. therefore, there is essentially no more power going to your batteries then as if you were stock, and therefore, after one bass hit, the batteries are sucked dry, and your amp wants more then it can have

on top of that, you had it wired to 0.5 ohms, which is going to want to annihalate your electrical system, naturally. you may have possibly even been below that ohm load, but im not sure how you wired up yoru subs the second time though

so, essentially to keep it simple, you were putting stock amount of charging power to batteries on a huge *** amp running at a very low ohm load.

horrible combo

Well go**** I should have waited in the rain that extra hour while installing to do so, but thanks that explains alot. Would there be a reason my sub blew also? Because when I got it it was already making noises at low volume that he never told me about.

im not sure what happened there, maybe a surge through the amp? no idea someone else will have to chime in there

I have some IA 40.1's . For starters nothing less than 1 ohm. Then you need to have more runs of wire at least 2 of zero gauge going back from the + and - on the front battery. Then do the big 3 upgrade. U should not have a problem with that amp. When u drop below 1 Ohm ur pulling way more current than u can Install wise.

So you did not have a batt in the back? Whats the diff in 2 runs from front batt then 2 runs from back batt to amp? Does it take 2 runs to charge that back batt

1200 dollars down the ****ing drain

next time... ask for help double-checking. Could've saved alot of money drawing out a diagram of what you did and ask on here or other forums if it correct. That sux though

or sell me ur amp and i can save u future problems. but really with such grate equipment im clueless on to how in the hell u didnt install everything correctly, def not noob equipment, noob mistakes. dont take this the wrong way either no harm intended

Oh I feel you, I am the type to do everything myself and learn it. I just picked the wrong things to learn with... The big 3 is what killed me. I was going to do that when I Was in texas
