I want to mount my amps to my prted box Bad Idea?

alot of people mount thier amps to the box (myself included)... great for saving space. i dont know of any reasons why to not do it?

Car amps are designed to handle vibration. And if your sub box vibrates enough to hurt your amp, it's not thick enough.

There are a few things electonics DON'T like and vibration is one of them. No matter how sturdy you build your box you are still introducing vibration into the base of your amp that WILL shorten it's life. You want to dampen the amp as much as you can. Mounting to a sub box is not a good idea. Everyone has an opinion. Mine just happens to be right. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/banghead.gif.8606515f668c74f6de0281deb475b6fd.gif

Just to add a bad experience that I had with mounting an amp to a sub box.... I had a Rockford Punch 360.2 mounted to a sub box holding a 15 inch Rockford HE2. After about a year the speaker blew out. About 2 months later another one went out. About 2 months or so after that another one went out. I pulled the amp off the box for inspection and found that a bunch of capacitors fell off inside of the amp. I am suspecting that the cause was a combination of the heat and vibrations. After I had the amp repaired the sub ran just fine (thank goodness for extended warranties). However, I have mounted 5 or 6 other amps that I have used to the back of sub boxes without any problems.

Is the back of a box much different than the top, front, or sides? I don't quite understand why it would be...course, I'm new, so if I don't understand no big suprise :p lol

Don,t think sideswould be to much diffrent from the back. Top Might be a little diffrent just because sub is horizontal instead of verticle. However don,t think you will be mounting the amp to the front with the subs in the box.

The only difference about where on the box that you mount the amp is the position of the cooling fins on the amp. If mounted on the top (granted that there is plenty of clearance) the cooling fins will be able to disperse the heat a little bit better. If mounted on the back or side the cooling fins would either be horizontal or vertical. If the fins are vertical than the heat can rise upward, if mounted horizontal then the cooling fins wouldn't disperse the heat quite as well. The good news is, cooling wise, the amp will run fine mounted any where on the box as long as there is good clearance.

That soundslike it will look pretty cool. can't wait for those pics. As for the amp if you mount it on the side so the cooling fins are left and right heat can rise from both, if the cooling fins are on the bottom the heat from the bottom one will rise back into the amp.
