OMG it is CLEARLY obvious you have absolutely no IDEA what you are talking about..
Here let me help you oh great one LOL omg this is the best post i've read in a long time...
Here is this page... Well he may not be as SMART as you but he will have to do...
http://www.bcae1.com/gaincon2.htm
Here let me quote him so you don't have to leave the page...
Who are you again? I was learning about square wave forms and their affect on amplifier output nearly 20 years ago. Where were you 20 years ago? Ive never claimed to be an expert, but I do have an IDEA what Im talking about. You however, clearly have no idea what Im talking about. You cant even quote the pertinent bcae1 page. Here, let me help you...

I like how you try feverishly to make the point that clipping is actually overpowering... WRONG AGAIN...
I see the issue, you are having a problem understanding my point clearly. I'll be glad to requote myself...
...adjust your gains artificially high, and clip the amplifier, what happens? Output increases beyond the amp's rated specs. If this increase in output then surpasses the sub's thermal limits, were you actually 'underpowering' the speaker?
Okay, in case you are still confused, lets walk through this step by step, together. Notice, in my quote of myself, the comment that starts with 'if' and ends with 'thermal limits'. IF adjusting the gains artificially high surpasses rated output so much so that it exceeds the speaker's THERMAL LIMITS, you are, by definition, "overpowering" the speaker.
I see you still have that angry and confused look on your face, so lets keep working at it...
I have a 800 watt amp and a 1000rms sub...Once again the illusion of the speaker being safe (hey it's a 1000 watt speaker i can crank the volume since my amp only does 800) they crank the knob, the signal is clipped and the sub goes poof... Now reading the above it's apparent that power is not infinite thus the reason the signal is clipped the amp can NO LONGER produce the power you want it to so it CLIPS the wave... so now that amp is putting out 900 watts of square waveform WHICH IS UNDER THE RMS POWER HANDLING OF THE SUB (UNDERPOWERING) and damage to the sub will occur.....
So basically, you have no idea what a clipped amplifier is capable of producing. Okay, lets educate you.
A fully squared wave of the same amplitude as a normal waveform has TWICE the area under it. If you are as smart with waveforms as you imply, you should understand this means TWICE the power. So your 800 watt example amplifier when fully clipped would not necessarily be doing the mesely 900 watts you pulled out of your *** (seriously, where did that come from), it would likely be upwards of 1600 watts. Exactly how much would depend on how much the signal is being clipped. It might be the 900 watts you guessed at, it might be the 1600 watts it
could be, it might be anything in between those.
I've done multiple warranties on a lot of subs and 2 things always become apparent...1. The sub blew due to having an amp under it's rated power on them causing the user to "crank it up" sending clipped signals to subs and blowing coils...
And.... *gasp*... overpowering the thermal limits of the sub. Yep, sounds like a case of "underpowering" to me. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
PLEASE for the love of god before you start running your mouth and ACTING like your are the all knowing person.. educate yourself cause right now the subject shifted from the island saint guy... To just how you have probably posted the funniest statement i've ever read....
Which statement of mine, exactly, are you referring to? I cant wait to find out. But no matter, I think you have me beat for most idiotic statement...
...underpowering a sub is FAR MORE dangerous then Overpowering it...
You dont seem to grasp the fundamental ideas of
overpowering something versus
underpowering it.

808_bass, since Im feeling so helpful to you Hawaiians tonight, I'll give you a hint. Driving slow = underpowering.
Aloha.
