That's not what I'm saying. The thing is, in reality, amps will actually still increase the real amplitude of the sine wave when they first start clipping. The further you push it to clipping, the less real amplitude gain you continue to get, and eventually your real amplitude stays the same, while your artificial amplitude continues to increase until you essentially have a square wave. This is why you can actually get louder by slightly or moderately clipping, but you get diminishing returns the farther you push the amp into clipping, as it begins to only increase the artificial amplitude of the wave.
