I remember the...

Still run & compete with 2 RF Punch 150's from 89, just before the HD's. 1 on 1 15" CV VEGA series & the other on mids/highs. All in a Hatch.

VERY underrated powerhouses & still respected to this day. Others are amazed what they can do!!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

BTW, retail for the Punch 150 was $515 back in 89.
Yup, very nice amps, unfortunately I was young and dumb and didn't hang onto them.

I don't remember the RF sub model, whatever was out around 90 or so, but the punch 75 and those two subs in that bandpass with ports fired against the back hatch got loud for the day. All in a 71 VW bus, slow and loud, what a ride //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

And in good operational condition and decent cosmetic condition they still easily sell for $200 seventeen years later...

Not too bad as far as retaining value goes.

Wal-Mart used to carry Spartomatic EQ/Boosters also. An upgrade from the Road Master units.....Haha.
*snickering*

I had and Accord that had a Punch 150, Punch 75 and Punch 45. Boston Components and Boston 6x9s along with a Pair of Orion DVC subs that was crazy loud. That old stuff rocked..

You know you had one too.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

The I upgraded to a Kenwood EQ/Amp:rolleyes:
I never had a Sparkomatic unit but I did have a Roadmaster one that garishly claimed in very bold letters that it did something like 300 or 400 watts or something similarly ludicrous. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

I thought it sounded better than only using the HU's internal power at the time...

I never had any of Kenwood's EQ/Boosters but I did run a KGC-6042 9/11-band passive EQ back in the early 90s that I loved dearly.

Was that the one that had a Parametric for subs or something like that? I had one of those when I put in my first "real" system using those black Kenwood amps and some Kenwood two ways. I had a ported box by Pyle with two eights that Pounded like hell and sounded great. That was in a regular cab F150.

It had 9 bands of graphic adjustment then two parametric bands...one for the substage and the other for the rest, yes. 1/2-DIN chassis, black unit with orange (amber?) illumination.

The only difference between the original KGC-6042 that I had and the KGC-6042a that they sell now is the addition of selectable amber/green illumination.

back when systems sounded good.
ya man! That new xbl^2 and LMT tech sounds like utter shit compared to that good old 80's engineering.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

I bought the very first power 1000 our store got, to go along with my two power 350's . Saved for months to buy it . You want to talk about wangin //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif 1974 Volvo station wagon ,2 punch pro 18's in 15cubes tuned to like 30hz . two channels of the 1000 bridged to each 18. Front stage was old arse MB quarts with a bridged 350 on each side . Wasn't the greatest sounding car in the world, but Gd was it loud and clear //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif Throw in some zeppelin , and you could sing along from a couple blocks away. It was our first shop demo vehicle , pretty much the first shop demo vehicle in the area. It served it's purpose well , kids came running to buy systems //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

2 Punch Pro 18's

I ran 1 15" Punch Pro in a Civic Hatch & my bro ran 1 18" Pro in a CRX with a Transmission Line box. Both powered by a Punch 150.

Talk about being heard for blocks!!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

BTW, speaking of the old Punch Pro & the magnet weight (which is the original topic of this thread). I clearly remember being in awe at the magnet weight of the Pro when I started at 19-20. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif HUGE for the time & IMO still comparable in weight to some of today's sub monsters!

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rotflol.gif.b453361716769b8110ddefc85ff03cd2.gif @ the old fart's thread! 30+ y.o. ftw ((???)) I belong to that club unfortunatly-- //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

back then (the 80's) you either had Kenwood or Alpine or you weren' t anything! The Battle of the best sounding Cassette decks! And, we know what an 8-track player is...ma 'n pa probably had one installed in the "ol boat" of a car ... and we knew how it worked... lets see... Miss American Pie was on the third track about the fourth song in... LOL!

Great thread! Great memories! thanx!
