I remember the...

I remember havin the loudest system in town....had crazy power

120 watts out of a RF Punch 75 on two RF 10's in a 6th order bandpass

45 watts murdering the highs/mids from a RF Punch 45

about 165 watts and I can't even take a guess at the stupid price of those amps back in about 90 or 91.

CRAP, I must be old, I remember when the only amp there was, was a booster EQ, we didn't have amps, it was a booster and 4-6x9's, and I had to walk up hill in the snow to school both ways....lol

... okay maybe its not THAT old school, but i have some old kicker Substation 80 tubes, by clearwater designs or some bullshit like that... stfu im 18 and was sheltered from car audio until i was old enough to buy it myself!

I don't know if it was common in lots of places but they were very common here...anybody remember the 5-band and 7-band "Boostilizers" that Roadmaster used to sell? Pretty much every parts house (Auto Zone and the like) as well as Wal-Mart, Kmart, etc carried them and seemingly everyone that had any kind of aftermarket tunes had one at least for a little while before learning better.

Shamefully I must admit to being one of those who burned their money on that trash before learning better...

Edit:

After seeing previous posts that must have been made while I was typing mine apparently I'm not the only one who remembers the above-mentioned units.

And phantom420? Just as an //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif it was Stillwater Designs that produced all the Kicker gear once upon a time. One of my first "decent" bass enclosures was a Kicker Super II (though you may not have a clue what that was) and it was clearly labeled "Kicker Super II: By Stillwater Designs" across the top of it.

Ah lol. I would have looked at the sub itself, but its at my other house... and its 11 pm. And those stillwater kickers were **** good too. Hooked it up to my amp to kill it after years of looking retarded with no purpose, and at ~900w it wouldnt die. I was like, huh? its rated at 150 max. WHY WONT U DIE

What the Super II was was a rectangular, sealed enclosure that came with a set of "legs" that once they were attached to the bottom made the enclosure sit at a tilted angle with the front of the box being higher than the back.

The front baffle had a pair of SVC 4 Ohm 8s that weren't rated but for 75w RMS each if memory serves.

On the bottom, and the reason why for proper use the enclosure had to be tilted up, were two downfiring 10" passive radiators. I ran them off of a 2-channel Yamaha amp that I cannot recall the model number of to save my life but iirc it was rated to output 75wpc X 2 channels @ 4 Ohm stereo.

Now that I have several more years experience in the hobby than I did back then was it outstanding? Nope.

Back then when I was still a complete n00bx did I think at the time with that box sitting in the backseat of the Nissan Sentra coupe I drove in high-school I was seriously wangin'???

HELL YEAH I did! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

The guy that bought my Super II when I decided to make a change still has it to this day. He's got the actual subs wired in series for an 8 Ohm load and uses it for his HT's LFE output.

Still run & compete with 2 RF Punch 150's from 89, just before the HD's. 1 on 1 15" CV VEGA series & the other on mids/highs. All in a Hatch.

VERY underrated powerhouses & still respected to this day. Others are amazed what they can do!!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

BTW, retail for the Punch 150 was $515 back in 89.
