Now that I have finally got my sub setup sorted out. (12in Image Dynamics IDQ with my current
DLS A6) it's time to turn to the cabin speakers.
Currently I have the stock Bose system which is decent, but it leaves me wanting more. Especially now that I have my subs (and the OEM Bose one) disconnected, I can hear the system's limitations. I know the best way to choose speakers is to go and listen to them, but that is not possible for every speaker on the market and I feel that I might miss something nice. For the speakers I can listen to, I certainly will, but I was hoping for some other speaker recommendations.
My car is an '04 Audi A4 and it can fit 6.5in component speakers in each door. I believe the tweeters are 1in (one in each door). For reference there is what I believe is a 3in center dash speaker. I'm willing to spend more money on the front speakers than the rear. I listen to mostly Rap, Rock and Dance and when i'm alone in the car, I like to turn it up loud. I'm looking for good SQ with minimal, if possible, no distortion. The subs I just took out (JL W3D2s) overpowered the Bose system, and I want to make sure that doesn't happen with my new setup. I plan to use a
DLS A4 amp and my headunit is a Pioneer Avic-D3.
I also have another question. The tweeters in the rear doors are right behind mine and the passenger's heads. I was told this pulls back the sound stage. I was thinking that I could go with coax speakers (the tweeter would be nearer to the floor) in the rear and wanted to know if this would reduce that effect. Another option (suggested by a shop) would be to put the rear component tweeters on the rear deck facing up. This would use the rear window to reflect the sound forward on to the windshield.
I would like to spend close to $400 in total, but am willing to spend $400 for just the fronts if they are really worth it. I've tried to provide as much information as possible, but if I have missed something, please let me know.
