I am designing the stereo for my 03 civic sedan, which is my daily driver, and I want it to be the best sounding stereo I have done to date.
So far I have my front stage purchased. I have a rainbow profi vanadium 365 3 way set. One thing I am willing to do is to use it as a 2 way set by just disregarding the midrange xover and speaker if I have too. For my amp I have an arc audio FD4150 which is 80x4@4, 160x4@2, and 320x2@4.
The rainbow speakers say max 180w, 120w nominal. so I don't know if I should bridge and give the three way all 320w, or if I should get another set of xovers and run it 80 to the tweets + midrange and 80 to the woofer. or if there is some way to bi-amp that would allow me to run 2 channels into the set, or some way to drop them down to 2 ohm... I have no idea, I don't want to bridge the amp if I can get around it, I am not even sure if its safe to run these speakers at 320w, these speakers are unlike anything I have dealt with before.
The other concern I have is placement. I only see three options, and only 2 are within my realm of capabilities.
1) Run the system 3 way with the woofer in the door. and the midrange and tweeter in the kickpanel. This is the easiest for me to accomplish, but I am a very big guy (6'6"), too big to drive a civic... I hate the loss of foot room, and I am concerned that my gigantic legs will block the sound from coming up to my ears.
2) Run the system 2 way with the woofer in the door, the tweeter in either the A pillar, or the little piece that sits in front of the side mirrors. This is entirely dooable, worst case is I have to glass the A pillars a little. this method is also dependant on my amping methods I asked about above.
3) This one seems too much for me to tackle alone, but I haven't ruled it out yet. Run the woofer in the door, the tweet in the a pillar or the mirror spot again, only glass a spot in the door for the midrange and run the set 3 way.
Please offer me any advice you can (besides get a bigger car). I am most concerned about the amping of the speakers, I don't want to blow them, and I don't want to burn out that little light all the time in the xovers etc etc..
