I need help/ advice!!!

I recently bought a pair of speakers, 2 12" Infinity in a case from a buddy and he also sold me a amp. The amp is my major question. It is kinda small. It is a Kicker KX 400.1. I went to best buy and the guy hinted that it might be suitable for the big speakers but he never mentioned it again and i fear he just wants to sell me more of their amp/ wires which are ridiculously over priced. But i want to know if that amp will work for my system and will it perform to its best ability.

Thanks

These are subs? Can you give us a link?

and what do you drive? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Multimeter looks like this:

It will be difficult for us to help you unless we know the exact subs. Can you ask the friend you got them from?

Generally speaking, 400W is a small amount of power to divide between two 12" subs. I think you'll end up wanting a bigger amp, but can't be sure til the subs are confirmed.

Could you point me in the general direction of an amp that is cost effective and bigger and ideal for my subs.

Thank you for the help and i couldn't help but notice you also have a subaru! Gotta love them.

Yep very much so //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I love mine.

I can't in good conscience recommend an amp without knowing what they're going to power. I would do all you can to find out what subs they are, maybe unscrew one from the box and take some pics... can you do that and post em up or ask your friend?

Alrighty lovely - so these should be your subs.

Infinity Reference 1250w 12" 4-ohm subwoofer at Crutchfield.com

It says that they take 300 RMS, so you will want at least a 600W amp to power these subs.

Every sub has an "impedance," and these are 4-ohm subs. The impedance will affect how much power goes to the subs from an amp. Very generally speaking if you half the impedance the amp sees, you double the power it puts out (if the amp can handle that impedance). If an amp will produce 200W given a 4-ohm load, you can predict that it will produce around 400W given a 2-ohm load.

If you were to wire these subs in parallel, the amp would see a 2 ohm load. So you will want to look for an amp that will do at least 600W RMS at 2 ohms. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Making sense?
