hey this isn't a complex computer problem just need advice. i currently have a 40 gig hard drive that has only 200 MB left. i just got a 60GB seagate barracuda hard drive. my computer is running pretty slow and im planning to format it and start over with a fresh install of windows. what im wondering is should i install windows on the 60GB seagate barracuda or should i install windows on my wester digital 40 gig? i think the seagate is the better hard drive cuz its 7200RPM whereas the western digital is an old 5400 RPM i believe. so should i install windows on the seagate and use my western digital for storing mp3s and DVDs or vice versa??

Partition the Seagate, use about 10 gigs as C: and install Windows on that, then use the other partition for all programs and preferences, games, etc. Then use the WD for music and stuff.

Id put my windows files and stuff on the Western Digital... Its smaller, but a better hardrive. I have a cheap one break... for sure put your valubale stuff on the WD. it sucks to lose stuff.

its a 5400rpm, the seagate will be quicker... seagates are also pretty reliable, unlike maxtor //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif

hey gauntlet.. i have a bunch of stuff i want to back up to DVD so i can delete them off my hard drive. the thing is, im paranoid that something might go wrong and i wont be able to read the data on the DVDs for some reason. im basically skeptic that dvd burners can flawlessly write to DVDs for some reason. haha i have a plextor px-716a. can i burn data to DVD with confidence and delte the files with confidence?? im scared ill back it up and delte it off my hard drive and a year later the CD might not work or something. im scared to depend on my DVD drive to back data up!!!!

Dude, you're 15 ... Your experiences are nothing compared to most people //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
I agree with Raven ... Make a small partition on the Seagate specifically for Windows and use the WD hard drive for items which don't require a fast hard drive (Music, Documents, etc.)

Also, use a program to back up your hard drive to DVD or use a program to make an image of it for restoration (Norton Ghost, Acronis True Image, etc.) ... Nothing will piss you off more than when your hard drive dies and you lose everything ...

x2 on Maxtor //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif

Take care of the DVD's properly and you'll be fine. Burn at a slow speed, keep your running processes to a minimum, keep them in jewel cases, clean them every now and then, etc.

You're still an idiot and you're still wrong.

like mentioned, the schema for hard drive usage is:

1. os on one

2. programs on another

3. data on another

it sure does **** losing a hard drive which had nothing but programming source code though. no backups... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif Needless to say, now, our stations get Ghosted every day.
