I need a cheap, upgradeable system.

My birthday was last Tuesday, and my mom said that she would put up to $200 towards anything I wanted. I really need a new system in my car. It's pretty horrible right now. The speakers are all blown, the cd player barely plays any cds anymore, and I really want to be able to just plug in my iPod. I can put another $100 into it, so my budget is $300. Is there any head unit out there that can power a pair of component speakers and make it sound halfway decent? I figure that way I can always add the amp(s) and sub(s) later on. I also have a friend who will install it for free, so installation isn't a factor in the price. I guess it doesn't matter what I listen to at this price range, it's all gonna sound mediocre. Which is still ten times better than what I'm dealing with now.

your not really going to be able to get decent sound form comps. running on like 15W rms from a deck...

Personally, I would just spend like $200~ on a decent used deck from here and then spend some on a couple sets of Coaxials instead of components until you have a higher budget.

OR

spend like $100~ on a deck, $75 on a 4-channel amp and then $125 for some cheap comps and amp install kit. Little stuff adds up quick too though, dash mounting kit, stereo harness, butt connectors, antenna adapter stuff like that...

There are always some great deals floating around on here. You should be able to get a Crunch P900.4 for like $75 shipped brand new, with a warranty. you can get some cheap Planet Audio, Hifonics or MB Quarts components for like $50 a pair... install kit for pretty cheap and then whatever you can find for a deck... I hate to say it but you can get a "VR3" deck for under $100 and in all honesty, I have no complaints on the one I had in the Durango for a few weeks after I bought it. Ipod hooked right up, it had blue tooth, Micro SD slot etc...

Just get a new HU and replace the speakers with some infinities or something. Then just save up your money until you can afford something decent.
