I might have fInally decided on a laptop. What do you think?

This thread is too far into the FAILURE stage to even try to bring back.

Good luck on buying your shithole computer w/the UBER GREAT best buy warranty. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

When I bought my laptop it came with a 2 year standard warranty and a 1 year accidental damage warranty. Accidental damage covered spills, fire, surges, or drops. 2 year standard warranty covered anything hardware related from the keyboard, wireless, screen etc. It also had a 30 day replacement plan for dead pixels. If there was a single dead pixel in the screen within 30 days you get a brand new laptop no questions asked.
Wow that is a pretty good factory warranty. Kind of dumb in that case to pay $320 for an extra 1 yr of warranty. I'll check that out today when I'm up there as well.

so much negativity! There's nothing I can do man, I have $1200 computer credit for best buy only. And these asus laptops seem to be the best thing they have

And I won't be getting the " uber great" bb warranty this time. But it helped me out 4 times on my last hp. New mobo, HD, LCD ( twice ) keyboard, power button, USB and audio inputs. So that was one of the only times a bb warranty was well worth the price

I was looking at the macs. But the one I wanted was the mac pro for I believe 1600. But had a weak gpu , and I don't think it has hdmi to use my tv as a monitor , so unless I get the apple tv deal I wouldn't. Be able to do it.
And I think the closest mac pro that compares ( hardware wise ) to the asus is either 1999 or $2499. I would love one. But I have a free handout of $1200 so I'm gonna try not to go over that. But believe me I've looked.
macbook pro?

You don't need as much beastly hardware for macs because the OS is so streamlined and fine tuned. My friends basic macbook $1300 with 3 year warranty rapes my cousins 17" Toshiba Qosmio gaming laptop. and my Macbook pro definitely rapes both... but that cost me a arm, leg, and testicle. $2,950 :O

I don't regret spending that though, it was definitely worth it to me, that dang thing is flawlesssss. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Just dont let the BB guy try to talk you into it. Hes going to give you some stupid *** excuse and BS just to make a buck in commission.
Will do man, Thanks for the help. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Now the choice still stands

$1199

p8700 CPU

5400 rpm hdd

or.

$999

p7450 CPU

7200 rpm hdd

I know the 8700 is a much better CPU , but am I losing something by dipping to the slower hdd?

Whats the size on the HDs? If the 5400 is a 250Gb HD it will be fine. If the 7200RPM HD is larger like a 500GB HD then they will have about the same performance.

My HP was in the repair center alot too. 3 motherboards, a screen, a heat plate, 2 keyboards, and 5 hard drives within 6 months. I switched to Asus and all my problems have stopped.

The asus for $999 p7450 , 4 gb ram 16" screen is 320 gb 7200 rpm

$1199 - p8700 , 6 gb ram, 17.3", 500 gb 5400 rpm

$1299 (quad q9000 CPU , 6 gb ram 17.3" screen , 640 dual 320, 7200 rpm

i'd say. as it stands there are not many things that will utilize, dual, quad, etc. some results show that single core stick right up there with all the rest. x2, x4 nothing is great about these except they need more current draw. lol

As it stands now. Right now computer technology is moving so fast. Within the next couple months quad core is going to be where its at. Id rather pay an extra $100 now rather than pay another $1300 later on top of this laptop purchase.

Welll as If there wasn't enough confusion on my side, I go up to best buy to check everything out, and tell them I didn't want the laptop I ordered. Instead of making me choose or wait to pick another laptop, they just gave me full instore credit. Of $1100. Hmmmmm

I was "supposed " to have computer credit only. But the chick just refunded me on a gift card. So now I could get anything I want. Maybe A. $600 laptop and a few games or blu rays?? Hmmm

So if you guys were looking at instore credit of $1100 that had to be for q laptop then you were told or received a gift card for $1100 would yoasher a cheap computer then go on a shopping spree or get the $1200 laptop you were looking at?

Is there anything inparticular you need the laptop for? If its for school consider getting a slightly cheaper laptop, maybe a speaker system for it, if you have a nice big tv with HDMI consider an HDMI cord, a printer, etc. Sort of create a home theater PC type setup.
