thermal paste?Ive got the same laptop but the model before that one. Mine is one year older. I also have a weaker GPU. I have the 9500GS 512Mb. Asus is by far the best computer Ive ever had. Ive had mine for almost 2 years now and not one single BSOD or hiccup with hardware. Not to mention the standard warranty is a huge deal.

Thats where I bought mine. You can completely customize it with any options you want including thermal paste which I recommend. I didnt get it and these laptops get pretty warm with high performance enabled. You get discounts at xotic if you are army, military, or a student.
Yea I wanted to get something that would at least not get outdated in 2 years , and was debating getting the bb warranty. Just still kind of stuck on either the quad or the one in the link. But yea I can't wait for either, just a couple more days to wait //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gifYou made a fine choice sir. Like I said, I have the GX71 and it fucking smokes (and its pretty much the same thing as yours with a different case).
And to all, its 8.8 lbs because it's considered a "desktop replacement"..not one of those feggy Netbooks that run XP and can't play cod4 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif
Ah, ok this makes more sense...Was your last laptop a 17"? Believe me they are NOT fun to carry around. Someone already said they are a ***** to travel with...I have a 17" gaming laptop (with dual graphics cards in SLI) and I actually consider it more of a portable desktop. I have a cooling pad, then this other lap tray thing that sits underneath that, and it has to be plugged in pretty much all the time. When you go with powerful specs your battery life suffers. When I first got mine the battery lasted for about an hour, now it's closer to 30 minutes. It's a hassle to take it anywhere //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gifAnd bubba, I would have got it somewhere else , but my old laptop died under warranty so I get $1200 for a new one, but it has to be from best buy, obviously.
When this dies I'll morethan likely want to build a dsktop
Hell no! Stay away from Alienware...unless you want to get *****.It's okay but you could get something better for a little more money. Go on Alienware and look at their new laptops with the Intel I7 processors.
But...IF I were you, i'd buy a mac...

Just make sure your buying it for the right reasons. If I could go back I would have bought a cheap 500$ laptop for internet and travel purposes, then spent the rest of the money and built a badass desktop for gaming...
I was looking at the macs. But the one I wanted was the mac pro for I believe 1600. But had a weak gpu , and I don't think it has hdmi to use my tv as a monitor , so unless I get the apple tv deal I wouldn't. Be able to do it.It's okay but you could get something better for a little more money. Go on Alienware and look at their new laptops with the Intel I7 processors.

Hmmm It just worries me that if something happens to the laptop it's gonna be unreal$$ to fix it. I'm assuming if something does happen out of warranty to NOT bring it to best buy, but instead a local smaller computer shop?Alienware is way overpriced for what you get. That Asus will smoke an Alienware in the same price range.
At Xotic you can get thermal paste on the CPU to help reduce heat. These dedicated GPUs in notebooks get pretty warm.
I wouldnt pay for the Best Buy warranty. The last time I did they have like a $50 co pay after the 14 day return policy. You pay $50 and they send it to the manufacturer. Asus has an awesome manufacturer warranty and good customer service. Its cheaper and easier if you dont get the Best Buy warranty.
When I bought my laptop it came with a 2 year standard warranty and a 1 year accidental damage warranty. Accidental damage covered spills, fire, surges, or drops. 2 year standard warranty covered anything hardware related from the keyboard, wireless, screen etc. It also had a 30 day replacement plan for dead pixels. If there was a single dead pixel in the screen within 30 days you get a brand new laptop no questions asked.Hmmm It just worries me that if something happens to the laptop it's gonna be unreal$$ to fix it. Heard a few times now asus has a great warranty. Is is longer than a year? Or just good customer service or what?
