Yes, It has happened. 5 years of loud music has left me almost paralyzed.

I used to bump loud for about an hour a day. It happened while i was listening to loud music, I felt something go wrong with my right ear

4 months ago I was diagnosed with Cranial, Vestibulocochlear, Facial and Auditory nerve Damage. All these nerves are in your Brain.

My symptoms are:

Hypersensitvity: any sound is extremely painful ( even the tick from a clock)

Ear palpitations

Extreme ear Pressure

Brain tremors and jolts

Cluster Headaches

Facial numbness

Tinnitus

Vertigo

Nausea

Anxiety

Depression

I can barely get out of bed, and have not had a conversation with a person for 4 months. Its just too painful. The only thing I can do it surf the net alone in complete silence. Talk about a Change!

My advice to all of you is to STOP this hobby. If you must, have a SQ system with a soft front stage.

For low end use an A/B mono amp with an SQ set up, like an Image Dynamics ID-Q sealed in 1 cu ft enclosure.

Other than that, I wish you guy never have to experience this, but the truth is, everyone on here will experience some sort of damage. I hope not this debilitating.

Good Luck

I've had 145+ dB system for over 10 years, and never had a problem. For some reason I still have better hearing, them some people I work with who have no exposure to car audio. It is too bad you have suffered such complicatoins, but I would say your case is the exception, not the rule.

Assuming the story is true, I wouldn't call it whining, nor do I think he was implying that his story is inevitable for everyone. Some people are more sensitive to sound than others, and everyone has different levels of hearing damage.

Its been well documented that even every day normal activities can cause hearing damage, and most of us experience some level of hearing damage as we age. Holes in our hearing, at different frequencies, is fairly common. But this is not to say that its going to happen no matter what, so crank your system to the max as much as possible. I doubt anyone here thinks Im discouraging the car audio hobby, I just want people to understand they are taking a very real risk of hearing damage. The OP's story is probably about as likely as a person acquiring no hearing damage even after prolonged exposure to a loud stereo, unlikely but possible. The most likely scenario is you/me/we are damaging our hearing to some degree that we would otherwise not experience if we weren't into this hobby.

Its like doing drugs, I have no moral dilemma with it, but i feel people should make an educated choice on the subject rather than not understand the risks they are exposing themselves to.

hey brah, been doing it since 93, only difference between then and now is i'm fatter and have a little more gray hair. so go and whine to someone else
For a second, I thought you were describing me.....

Were the Pup's involved?

Why would I be making this up?

I guess I am an unlucky one. My life has been changed, as I can't even do simple things now, like talk on the phone or listen to a lecture.

It is 100 percent true. I love car audio, but unfortunately, those days are good and done.

But you can still take the sound of the key board but not a clock....

No offense to you but I'm calling //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/bsflag.gif.21f42eccd34b7d1eb1608fb1b59b69c3.gif

One of my friends blamed car audio for some of his medical issues and he later was diagnosed with Bell's palsy. I suggest that the OP get a second opinion just in case his conditions are something more serious!

I can confidently say If I didn't listen to my sound system in my car, I would not be in this situation.

I noticed the listening to my system would bring the symptoms back. I am improving day by day, will never get to the level where I can listen to loud music again.

I don't have Bells Plasty, as I have excruciating pain in my ear that then developed my other symptoms.

I am 25, to whom ever was asking.

the keyboard does not cause many problems for me. There is slight discomfort, but not enough for me to be forced off the keyboard.
