So the other night myself and a few friends decided we were going to duct tape another friends wheels. We started taping around his wheels and somehow I let the excitement get the best of me. I ended up taping his entire truck. After I was done I realized that it may take paint off //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

So...the next day I get a call from a friend who says that Ian (The guy who's truck we tapped) said his truck was really messed up and his insurance appraised the damages at $4k...

I immediately called Ian and confessed that it was me and that I would pay whatever out of pocket. Ian in return told me he would drop the police investigation and agreed to me paying his deductible.

Here is where I get a tad iffy on the situation. I know cars and paint fairly well...I know for a fact that

A) its no where near $4k in damage, just a few spots where the paint has worn away.

B) I really don't think that the tape did what he is pointing to. They look like rock chips that have been set in for a while...

So what would you do if you were in my situation? He is my friend and I did tape his truck, but I do not believe that the damage was anything that I did. His deductible is $1k so no matter what if I pay I will be out of pocket big time...

Well, if you f'd up his paint, it doesn't matter that there are other spots... he'll prolly need a whole new paintjob, anyways.

Next time, use masking or painter's tape...

The tape didnt cause any damage.

The spots that he says are from the tape arent. There is only 2 spots no bigger then a nickle...

reminds me of the time i had my old 1969 impalla 4 door, my buddy had a 25th anniversery z28 camero and he parked it behind me. well i came rushin out of my house.. ( this was back when i was in high school) stoned and ready to go get some shiiiit from the gas station....

well i threw it in reverse and SLAMMED into the front of his car!!!!

had to pay his 800.00 deductible for 2500 worth of damadge to his baby... i felt sooo stupid.

That was moronic. Id expect it to be paid if someone did it to my car, and since you have no proof you DIDNT cause the damage, and you have already admitted to the crime, you really have no choice. I suppose you could sit in jail for it if you want to consider that a choice.

Guess you shoulda thought twice before playing a practical joke on someone. I would confront him on it. But...how do you know that he only has a few paint scratches and not more?! It's his car right?

He isnt mad at all. He doesnt care about his truck at all. You cant even see them. He had to point them out to me.

If he does decide to make me pay for it...I am going to **** his paint up before he gets it done. I am not paying a $1k deductable on 2 little rock chips...

pay him 100 or 200$ just for your phuck up on conpensating him...and tell him his paint looks fine and if he really wants his new paint job he can pay for it...4k for a regular paint job is redicerous

100% true...never again. I am going to confront him on it. There was just too many people there lastnight when he showed me and I didnt want him to be upset.

That might not be a bad idea seeing its a 12 year old truck...and I agree $4k for a paint job is shit on a truck that wont last another 2 or 3 years. He needs to go to macco and save me some money haha!
