Humming/Hissing/Distored Sound

Instead of using a MD player, use another cd player, a friends - anything. Use something other than Pioneer as well. (more on this later). If you still have noise, run a temporary new power line and tie the ignition line to it and run it direct to the battery. This is only a temporary connection so use whatever wire you have lieing around. Run a entirely new ground wire. Remove the unit from the dash cavity and place it on the seat. Do a noise check. If no noise, put it in the dash cavity, do another noise check. If no noise, swap the Pioneer in place of the test cd player and repeat the above steps. Post the results.

ok so the whine is there as soon as you turn the car to the ACC position. which means it has nothing to do with the alternator. you unplug the RCAs and the whine is gone. sounds to me you need to borrow someone elses Rcas and just go from your HU straight to the amp and see if it changes. dont hide them run them straight from your HU over your seat to the amp.

if its still there. then...... is your amp mounted to metal? and if so is that metal mounted to your car?

i had an amp that made that sound when i close my seat and it touched metal to metal.....

im having pretty much the same problems.

i would unplug my RCA's and the noise is still there, coming from the tweets.

I used KnuKoncept RCA cables and i get alot of noise and Alt wine. I switched to those $120 Tsunami cables and the alt whine is gone and noise got quieter.

Still a problem though...

soundstreem 4400E (the 880 rms mode / 4 chanel amp)

i've tried running different rcas already (oer the chair - still there's that sound

when i unplug 1 rca connector (red or white), the sound stays in 1 speaker

when i unplug both rcas, the sound disapears

i'm gonna check for the 12v+ connection tomorrow on the battery

i have a strut bar in the car, it's pretty close to the 12v+ cable

i'll remove it and see if it helps

will post results tomorrow

That is not the same model as me, but I have a similar problem with my Soundstream. It is a problem within the amp. Have you tried switching to a different amp to see if it was still there.

yeah i've tried a different amp

still the same

i've removed my strut bar thiking it could be it, no change, still there

i've changed the grounding position of the amp's ground, still there

ugh, it's anoying

Test with a different cd player like I said. My bet is that it is the ground plane of the Pioneer head unit you have. There is no way to know this for sure unless you do what I suggested. If a unit has a bad ground it goes looking for a new one. If that Pioneer head unit has a bad internal ground on the pre-amp section, it's going looking for another one, right down your rca cables and then you have a loop.
