OK. About to under go a huge install for a whole new system - front to back, wiring, everything. A good thing about this install is that my teachers are letting me do this as my senior project(graduation project). Hear me out and anything at all, help, comment, question is welcome.

The plan is:

Head Unit (Needs to hook to an iPod)(And charge it at the same time)

Two Doors

Possibly two dash - got to check how the stock ones are. ( i think 3.5")

Two Subs (Probably 12's, Possibly 10's)

Amp/Amps - need major help on this one

Battery (Need a powerful one, I have a lot of LED lighting and soon the system)

And all wiring, fusing, everything.

Car is an 1985 El Camino. I plan on making a wall like structure in the back like this -

or

Two subs behind the seats, and amp right on the wall. The box behind it is about Approx. 55" wide, 25" deep and 10" in height.

Budget is about $1.5-2K. I want to plan and spend accordingly to get the most bang for my buck.

And now for your guys help. I need to know what names, products, models will work in conjunction and will sound good. I want to put everyone at my school's to shame.

What would you do? I was looking at Polk MOMO series and one of the amps. I have not so much clue as to what amp and power works with what and how speakers and such.

I hope to keep this alive with pics and steps and such, along with your guys help.

Thanks for reading it out - looking forward to getting this project done.

So you dont have any idea on to what subs or amps you want to use?

I think you should get some of your OWN knowledge and opinions first instead of asking us to just build a system for you from scratch.

Thats why I was asking. I know I want either 10's or 12's with matching amp. But being a novice Im not to sure on what goes with which and all. So many brands with so many models.

Hows

2 Polk MM2124DVC

http://www.polkaudio.com/caraudio/products/subs/12inch/mm2124dvc/

with

Polk C500.1 Monoblock Amp

http://www.polkaudio.com/caraudio/products/amps/c500_1/

Question - will this amp push 2 of these speakers? And what is Dual Voice Coil? Does it make a difference?

Also, in Polk's website, is their MOMO series much different from there SR series and there dB series?

I would go with

subs

2 10" Fi SSDs

youll need a 2 cubic ft box for these, should be able to do that.

amp (for subs)

Rockford Fosgate T1500-1bd

or

Hifonics BXi 1606D

speakers (you should really go listen to some speakers at a local shop to see which sound the best to you, but i personally thought these sounded good for the price)

door

6-1/2 Infinity Kappas

dash

3-1/2 Infinity Kappas

Speaker Amp (just for door speakers, run dash speakers off HU)

MB Quart RAB 250

All wiring from Knukonceptz.com

Battery

Optima yellow top

Alternator from Iraggi, or you can get it from places like mean green or excessive amperage

Head Unit

Alpine CDA-9887 (I have this unit and i LOVE the Ipod interface, i like it even more than the apple interface on the ipod)

Is Alpine a good brand? I was also looking at this -

2 Subs - Alpine SWE-1242

http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/pro...?model=SWE-1242

2 Doors(Along with 2 Tweeters) - SPR-13S

http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/pro...S&lang=en&tab=F

For the Head Unit I dont really know which one will work in conjunction and why is the massive difference in price range?

http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/pro...?category=AV_HU

And which amp will power 2 of those subs? Can someone please explain how I can tell which will work?

http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/pro...hp?category=AMP

Which amp is better 600Watt or a 150Watt x 4? Isnt it the same?

If I have 2 subs that have

Power Handling Capacity (RMS): 250W

Power Handling Capacity (Peak): 750W

would I need 1500 Watts to power them? (750+750)

the bigger the better, right?

The Type-Es are okay for what they are, but you could get better for the money.

2 12" Fi SSDs would be good, those or the BLs.

http://www.ficaraudio.com for them.

The new AA Assasins would also work.

http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com for these, the are in the shop under Ascendant Audio.

Take a look at Soundsplinters subs. http://www.soundsplinter.com

There is ALOT more. I suggest you look around at whats out there and read up at SSA forums and on here.

As far as amps go, as said above, Hifonics is good and so is RF. Also look into Sundown (at SSA) as well as Kicker.

Alpine is an overall good brand for HUs. Also look into Eclipse, Pioneer, Kenwood, and there is still many more.

You should almost always disregard max wattages, they are nothing but a marketing gimmick. Look at RMS power. Look for a monoblock for your subs, and a decent 4/2ch for the speakers.

For speakers, look into Kicker, Alpine, Eclipse, Pheonix Gold, and Rainbow, also this is just a small bit of whats out there.

I personally haven't heard a set of fi subs. But from what every1 here says. There great for the money. I have a set of polk momo mmc6500 comps and I love them. There tweeters are quite sensetive to excessive power though. I've heard a set of hertz hsk165 comps and I think they put my polks to shame. For a HU are you wanting a regular HU or a screen? If a normal HU I have a Clairon DXZ955mc and I have loved it since the day I got it. There are a million different choices out there. Hit the search button a few times and you'll eventually find what you'd like.
