HU Volume full setting...

used it but does the same thing at higher volumes //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif sounds like poopoo

You should get cleaner sound at higher volume without the BBE engaged. So even with this function off you still get this problem at voume 17?

i had that same headunit awhile ago, i set my gains at 25 with no clipping issues, now my current alpine is set at 22. At max volume any headunit will clip, yours is just a strange case, maybe its defective??

this guy is just an idiot. why are you so set on getting you deck to goto full volume? if its loud then cool. why do you want your volume to be on 35 so badly.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif its probably your speakers clipping man. my deck is around 18 or 20 at full volume, above that it starts clipping, most likely my speakers. im not *****ing about it. but no your deck has to be at 35 when it clips wah wah.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif

Tell me this, Whats the point of a volume knob to go that far and not being able to use it. I want the max to be max. Doesnt necessarily have to be LOUD, i can set to how loud i want. i just want to be able to turn it up without the worry of goin too far.

Also why join just to complain about me?

Haha Megalo i agree, why would any company make a hu that clips before max volume is reached? The only think that I could think of is they have to sell to a broad market. If you aren't using an amp, you may not be happy with how loud the hu goes if max volume is set for no clipping. I guess the general public doesn't care about clipping and they want the hu to play loud even if its distorted. Anyway, I see your point of view and I hope you find something that suits your needs. Have you looked at any higher end stuff like Denon?

you could try eclipse.

lots of eclipse units when put on the oscope dont clip even at max volume. and the ones that do start at 78/80 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

First of all, I'm sorry about all these idiots that don't realize what's going on/is being asked. Clearly the answer to your question is that it is impossible with this head unit and most likely impossible with all head units. If the HEAD UNIT is clipping past a certain volume it has nothing to do with your amp gains. Everything I've seen indicates that all head units clip at full volume setting. Also, it doesn't seem practical to me for the highest volume setting to be the max before your amps can clip. What about older music, like most stuff before the 90's. The older recordings are recorded at significantly lower volumes, so if you have your gains set at the highest volume level on your head unit you won't have the headroom on the head unit to play the older recordings at a decent level. Download "bohemian rhapsody" and put your volume on the level your gains are set to and tell me if it's loud enough: it won't be.

So if you think your unit is clipping past 17 than realistically you should set your gains at volume level 13 or something of that nature. Don't let people play around with your volume, tell them this and if they start putting it up anyway yell at them. If other people drive your car than simply remove the faceplate, or just tell them not to put the music past volume number x. If you trust them enough to drive your car without you, than you should be able to trust them with your system.

you could try eclipse.

A good idea, but even if it doesn't clip at full volume and you set your gains for the full volume you still don't have the headroom to play recordings that are recorded at lower reference levels. An example of a more modern song that is recorded below the 0db level is "Young Jeezy - Sole Survivor"(well at least all the mp3s I've downloaded of that song are recorded very low.) It's just not practical to do what you want to do, even if the head unit doesn't clip at its max volume.

that's why you should set your gains with a reduced test tone.
This leaves even more guesswork with the head unit volume. I don't listen to too much rap, but if I do I don't put it past my volume level that is set for the gain with my 0db test tone. Of course, there are SOME rap songs not recorded at 0db like "Sole Survivor" but for almost all others I don't put it past the volume I set my gains to. With the reduced test tone you now have the ability to clip at the volume you set your gain to.

I'm really not understanding why you would ever set your gains with a reduced(I'm assuming -3db) test tone. I thought the reasoning behind setting gains at a certain level is that you can't possibly clip at the volume level you are set to. In this particular scenario that would both fix and unfix the problems at hand, would it not?

I'm fairly new to car audio, but it doesn't make sense to me. Unless actual music never clips at the volume level set at a reduced(Again assuming -3db) test tone. Are there not songs in which there are sustained tones above the -3db level?

Like I said, I'm pretty new and can very well be wrong about this //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif.

The only thing that I kind of understood is that music only has transients approaching -6db to 0db? It seems like everyone understood the whole situation much better when going to this link that you posted: http://www.carsound.com/UBB/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=021713#000000 but that link no longer works. If you would care to shed more light on this I would really appreciate it. Assuming this is true, I can play even my rap music much louder than what I play it at now(which is the volume I set my gains at 0db reference?)

Please explain! I'm now very interested and it seems I won't truly get the gist of it without the knowledge coming from the broken link.

It would be much appreciated //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
