HU Volume full setting...

I just ordered the 9887 (is that was you meant by 87s?) and it should be pretty sweet. 4V preouts as well as active xover ability. May solve your problem... might just be because your deck is old and wasn't one of the greatest even when it came out. So not sure you can solve your problem and keep the same deck.
yes.

probally right. so that brings me to the 2nd question i posted //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif hehe. any other decks can do this that has been proven?

sounds like a little common sense would help here.......turn your gains down until music is clean at 35.......whats difficult about that?

That center F button below the volume knob- does that center various frequencies? If so see what the bass is centered at and if it is boosted at all. I can't remember what that button was for...
takes me to settings. there are some functions for sub preset EQs, but thats about it. nothing fancy

set your gains correctly and tell whatever person drives your car not to turn it up past 17.....again pretty simple.... does your unit have media xpander? thats pretty much alpines version of the "loud" setting everyone is talking about....turned that to off on my old 9855 and everything sounded better.... with that on after about 22 on my volume wouldnt increase at all.

i know its that simple to tell person not to turn volume past 17. but thats not what im askin now. which unit is capable of what i desire now.

first off all.....stop using the internal amp.....no matter what you do, you will NEVER be able to hit 35 using the internal amp......Then just go throught the gain setting tutorial and put the headunit on 35

You're trying to do something that you refuse to do the right way.

You CANNOT have the gains set correctly if you did not set them at the desired volume you want to be at. Turn your GAINS DOWN, turn the volum eto 35, and THEN set them. That is the ONLY WAY to accomplish what you're trying to do.

Read the post my ***.

Hmmm... well it sounds like maybe you just need a new deck. I noticed you do the whole carputer thing; I had actually considered going that route but decided not to for right now. If you aren't going back to that anytime soon, it might be worth it to get a new headunit. Honestly that will solve most of your issues and give you better SQ. I'd look for something with at least 4V preouts and some sort of EQ/TA if you are interested in sound quality, which it looks like from the looks of your other equipment. Alpine makes great units, as does Pioneer. Pioneers' Auto EQ is pretty sweet on the DEH-P980BT and the DEH-P880PRS. Not sure how much you are wanting to spend. I have had both and paid $400 and $310, respectively. Also just paid $310 shipped for my 9887.

If the gains are set correctly and it still sounds like *** at 17, it is most likely the deck. We'll take your word for it that the gains are down. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

i think its been said, every HU no matter which one you buy is going to clip at some point or another...

i have an eclipse avn5435 with 5 volt preouts and with my gains set correctly 1-80 is where my volume goes.... 1-35 is pretty pointless as its almost completely silent, 35-60 sounds perfect and 60-75 i can get away with on certain songs...75-80 pretty much distorts no matter what.........

maybe that will help somewhat.....

yeah. time to get a new unit. i want to avoid 880 cause i dont feel like tinkering with the rca grounding issues.

how bout the 8054? i hear those are real nice. 4way capable active, TA, EQ

Not too sure... is that an Eclipse? I know they make pretty good units as well. Just never personally loved their sound. I know a lot of people who do though. I never had any grounding issues with my 880 but I have heard rumors about it. I did have a tiny bit of engine whine when i first installed it but I regrounded my amps and it went away.
