okay guys no bullsh!t in here just answers. alright I got my pioneer premier deh-p780mp back the other day from repairs and I tried hooking it up today and its not working I don't know why. It's reading 12 volts on the yellow wire which is the 12 volt memory/constant. But the red wire the 12 volt accessory is not reading 12 volts. My ? is should it be reading 12 volts if the hu isnt on im not sure. but also I need to figure out wat is wrong because I have no idea

did you have the key on when you tested the switched(red)?

I just took the red wire and took the 12v constant wire and put them together and the hu turned on so I guess theres something wrong there. but is it okay to have the red and yellow hooked up together or will this mess it up

the hu will never turn off...you need to fix the issue with the red....check fuses, and find if anything else doesn't work in the car

just find another acc. wire that only is on with the key on. U can find it by using a DM, look for the wire under the dash. DOnt forget to fuse that wire too.
no...you obviously have an issue, and might as well fix the problem....don't put duct tape on it and call it fixed

wtf are u talkin bout...that is fixing the problem. The acc wire is not working so u have to find a new one. how is that putting "duct tape", when ur actually fixing the it. There is no way to make that wire work again, besides running a new one, or findin another acc.

To OP, do what i told u, u wont have a prob lem again

No, that's not fixing the problem, that's a workaround for the problem. The problem is that his accessory wire, which worked before, no longer does. The solution to the problem is to fix the accessory wire, not find a new switched wire for your head unit.

It's probably just a fuse. Take a look at your fusebox, usually on the side of the dash under a pop off panel. Most of them have diagrams attached to the panel. Poke around for blown fuses and replace them them if you find them. Make sure you use a fuse rated for the same power as the one you're replacing. Most fuse boxes even include a few spare fuses.

There is an issue with the automobile, and possibly other electronics connected to the acc are not working....my point was to figure out what happened as you may have a bigger issue than just the hu not working....

Ok....Jeeps are known for there front speaker wires corride and not work. So what r u gonna do, keep the corrided *** wires....not u run new ones.

This is the same situation, whta if the wire just went bad or corrided somewhere. U can either find a new one or run a new one where the old one was at.

If it turns out that the wire "just went bad", and it's not effecting anything else, then just using a new source of accessory power would be fine.

We're not saying that it's not ok to do that, we're just saying that ignoring the problem and just finding a new way to do it, isn't the proper way to go about solving a problem. You should at least figure out what the problem is before you create a workaround for it in favor or fixing it.
