Tinting Experiences?

New englanders, how often you get hassled about tint? What happens when you get a ticket? How low does everyone go? 5%?

I currently have 20% back and quarter windows and 35% front sides. Never got bothered by the cops. It was pretty dark in the beginning but has turned slightly purple and is SOOOOO much lighter after 7 years. Always wanted to do 20 or 5% all the way around. Haven't decided which one yet.

ive always had 5% on all my rides, im in WV tho. Its a pain to get an inspection sticker every year tho

its mostly a local thing not really state. I live in NY (no where near the city). in my hometown i never really got bothered. 5% all around. i went away to college, and got nailed 3 times in 2 weeks driving around with my windows rolled down. Cop seen my car parked in my driveway with the windows up. sat a block down the road. i rolled them down before pulling out of my driveway and got pulled over as soon as i got in the road

it turned purple because it was a dyed film/low quality film. go with something metal etc, that will not fade. and darkness well that depends on your preference, and how worried you are getting stopped.

the purple color of your tint has to do with 2 things:

A) Cheap tint, if you get it redone make sure you have metallized tint

B) Ammonia glass cleaner aka Windex.....be sure to use non-ammonia based cleaners. Vinegar works in a pinch, and IIRC ArmorAll makes a glass cleaner for tinted windows

My car isn't tinted because its not worth the money on a car that looks like shit anyway, but IMO 20% all around looks really good and you probably won't get hasseled much for it, at least here you won't, don't know about in New England

now thats a dickhead cop right there. seriously, did he not have anything better to do than to wait around and bust you for a tint violation?

Cool, thanks. Yeah, I saw that on a tinting forum. Too bad it wasn't quality film, some kid at boomer mcloud did it. He did an awesome job too, even over the dot matrix.

I can't decide, I think I'll do the side windows myself in 5% and see if i get stopped at all for a while. Then maybe have someone redo my back window.
