Hu preout voltage issue

Ok lets start by saying i have the equipment listed in my sig.

the hu is rated at 5 volt preouts for the front and rear rcas and 2 volts for the sub.

when i put a 50 hz 0db test tone i and play the hu at full tilt (50 of 50) i got a reading of 1 volt on my dmm and at 38 of 50 (75%) i am getting .36 volts on the dmm (this the sub out)

For the front preouts i am getting 4.1 volts at full tilt and 1 volt at 75%

From searching and reading here i am under the immpression I should be getting reading 2 volts at full tilt and 1.5 ish at 75%.

are my assumptions correct? is there a problem with my hu preouts?

any insight and suggestions would be greatly appreciative.

Don't worry about it. Just hook it up to your amp and set your gains from whatever the actual output voltage is.

If you're trying to figure out what volume to use to set your gains, turn your gain all the way down and then turn up the volume on your headunit until things start to sound nasty and then turn it down. This should bring out clipping from the headunit and not the amps. If don't notice anything from min to max, I would set them around 75-80% to leave some headroom for low recordings.

My issue with checking the preout voltage stems from the fact that I have a very nice amp/sub combo which by most peoples experience gets loud and mine just isnt loud.

Check your subsonic filter and crossover points on the amp and then set the gains by ear. **** the dmm method.

well I noticed that the rca inputs on the amp were kinda loose so I opened it up and made them tight, and then I did just what you are suggesting.... set the gains till it distorted and then backed them off.

It sounds a bit better, but I think most of trouble is I have huge expectations of this sub/amp combo and maybe they just cant live up to it.

It could be your vehicle, enclosure placement, or the enclosure itself.

Vehicle is a Mercury Villager Minivan

Box is placed at the rear of the van facing the back lift gate port and sub both firing back towards lift gate

Box was designed by a forum member for the rlp specificlly and built by me to exact specs.
