Eclipse 8053.....and there is one in the classifieds along with a BLA for a **** good deal if you ask me (no, its not mine either //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif )

Wow, the specs on that are impressive. Ill definitley hold that one in my pocket.

I dont HAVE to get a screen, im just not ruling them out (I do like them, but not a necessity).

Also like the premiers, very good specs, and nice and clean looking:patrioti:.

Id like it also to have a rotating volume knob, and no internal amp, just pre-outs.

Anyone else??????

WOW! Awesome reccommendations so far....//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsup.gif.3287b36ca96645a13a43aff531f37f02.gif:thumbsup:

Researched the purposed models so far and........

Im liking the Eclipse CD7200 and the Poineer Premier DEH P800PRS or 880PRS (not sure on the difference in the Pioneers other than color).

Price wise, the Eclipse is about $80 more, the Pioneer has an internal amp (apparently you can disable it), and Eclipse has 8 V pre-outs while the Pioneer sports 5 Vs (most drastic difference, but honestly anything over 4 V is enough in my book). Although 3 V is quite a bit more, this stood out to me more in terms of how far Eclipse went with this HU, than the quality in 8 V vs 5V. Aslo Eclipse seems to have a little more sound imaging ability (like customizing your vehicle layout on a computer and uploading it onto your HU). Just pure looks gets close too, but I think Pioneer has a slight upper hand (barely, and that depends on what you like)//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif.

Now I cant judge quality build or real world performance because I havent been exposed to any of these units, but they look to be the top contenders.....

Any other thoughts???//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Ive seen Pioneer Premiers reccommended alot. Any other thoughts? Any reccommendations for HUs with a screen or upgraded display?

pioneer deh-p800prs,sold my jvc dd for it and wont look back great unit lots of features decent price and looks great in my dash....

sound is great

didnt see you wanted a screen

alpine with the external processor..dont know model numbers but they are pricey h/u is close to a grand alone..

dont know why companies dont manufacture dd monitor type sq hu's though

not a single alpine recommendation... yall are killin me.

couple things, dont know if it matters to you but the eclipse 8053, while it is a badass unit, does not have a removable face, which is what put me off on it.

also, the css sdx7's are only available in 8ohm configuration, so you wont be able to send very much power to them running 4 of them with a sundown 100.4.

Actually the spec sheet on the ones I was looking at said 6.4 ohms. Heres the spec sheet that I got:http://www.creativesound.ca/pdf/CSS-SDX7-data-261207.pdfIm planning on running 4 total, each pair wired in parralell which @ 3.2 ohms should be pumping a little over 300w to each pair with the SA100.4 bridged (Sundownz confirmed this for me). Im torn between those and CDT M6s, but ill throw all this in the speaker forum......back to HUs.

Yeah the frst time I bought a HU I really wanted a detatchable face, but the whole time I owned it I took it off like 3 times maybe. Now its not so much of a concern. Anyways, since then Ive lifted my truck so someone would have to jump up on something just to look in.

Finally, Thank you!! I was wondering where all the Alpine supporters ran off too.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

other thoughts while I check out the Alpine??

Oh yeah,

has anyone else noticed that you can get a good quality high end HU, or you can get one with a screen?????//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/mad.gif.c18f003ab0ef8a0d9c27ca78d77a6392.gif

WTF, its like they just slap a screen on a HU that would otherwise be $100:confused:. Of course you can buy the signal processor, the optical cable, and all that crap (which basically DOUBLES the cost of your HU), but with all that money spent, theres no way any money concious person would ever wanna pony out that much dough and still have 90% of their setup left to purchase!!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/verymad.gif.3f39c5c2fd57527b671fad3efdfac756.gif Wow, its just when you take what it would cost, say....eclipse's (hell, alpine, pioneer, and anyone else's) higher quality HUs and try to add up the cost of making an eclipse with a screen perform like that, youre looking at like TEN TIMES the cost of the higher end model (no Im not exaggerating!!!).//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

Sorry, just wanted to vent.......ahhhh I fell better now.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif:D:D

alpine 7998 > all
Not trying to be combative or anything like that, BUT:

Have you listen to all the other units. If so what makes the 7998 a better sounding head or just a better unit. And Yes, I have used the 7998(One of my customer replace his 880prs with a 7998, but don't read to much into that). and about 95% of all the units listed in this thread, the only one seen list that I think I have not used is the Eclipse 7100(just not a fan of the new Eclipse stuff).

i really like my eclipse 8053. fully active setup WITH 8v preouts. O-scope showed no clipping at full volume.

a friend of mine has the newest alpine..9887...it seems nice, but i don't know much about it.

AAHHHHH, didnt notice that part at the end. Youre right, its complete garbage.....//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/verymad.gif.3f39c5c2fd57527b671fad3efdfac756.gif

Yeah, weather or not you like Eclipse, theres little doubt that some of their newer stuff (CD7200 is another good one) is top notch!!!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsup.gif.3287b36ca96645a13a43aff531f37f02.gif

OK, I think Im gonna go with a screen and the processor with a fiber optic link.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

So far looking at Alpine, Pioneer, and Eclipse. Havent seen anything on Clarion, or any others lately.

Want kick a$$ graphics, ROTARY volume knob, and, above all else, the sound processor with the highest SQ oriented specs (HIGH V- preouts, ect.)

Lets hear your votes!!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/patriotic.gif.b47a6e0394a3738334c387bdf79409f4.gif
