i just picked up a mitsubishi HD5500 projector
For speakers i have two custom bookshelves and a sub woofer run off a small 50x2 amplifier (by no means a receiver)
for streaming from my macbook i plan to use a mini dv to HDMI connection and then a headphone to analog audio cable to get the sound from the computer to come out of my speakers (same way i do now with my current TV when i want something to be shown on the television and use my good speakers). This im guessing will work.
However for xbox 360, i plan on running HDMI from the xbox to the projector and for sound using the composite(i modded the end of the cable so that it, and the HDMI can be plugged in simultaneously) analog audio out, and into the rear of my small amplifier.
I tested this today and it worked, however the small amp had to be turned almost all the way up to get any reasonable sound out of my speakers. Any ideas as to why this happened. I can't use toslink since the amplifier i use isnt actually a receiver.
