How's this for an active mid/tweeter combo?

You have GOT to be kidding me.

Not at all. The shop did several installs with the polk sr comps, and the tweets seemed to be lacking somewhat. Still sounded very good though. They are very laid back. Some people may like them, some may not. Great tweeters though, ide pick up a pair for my active setup if they were louder.

Its closer between these tweets than the hd3 is to the dd9500. Thats about as best I can put it. Not trying to steer anyone away from this nice set of tweets, I may end up running 2 pairs for my needs. Very smooth to the ears. I like them alot.

In all honesty, I can't disagree with you more.

They get loud, and are at times... a tiny bit harsh.

Wow.

It doesn't look like that mid is enclosed and its 8 ohm! Good for a passive but not active IMO.
speaker impedance doesnt affect active crossovers because they cross the signal before the amps. Then the amp just drives that signal into whatever load is hooked to it.

Are you limited to Vifa? Have you looked at Dayton or Peerless?
No.

It was just coincidence that I picked 2 Vifa mids. I also found some Dayton and Scanspeak mids that look good. I've looked at everything at madisound and partsexpress, so yeah, Dayton, Peerless, Vifa, Seas, Morel, Aurasound, Hi-Vi, etc.

I am leaning towards some 2-3" dome mids now since they are tiny and still extend down below 1 kHz. I think having a 2" dome and a 1" dome right beside each other in a kick would look badass. Then caraudio ignorant people would be like "damn those little things put out all of that bass?" and I'd say "hell ya those are made by Bose" //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Which is why I don't care if they are 8 ohms. As long as they don't need a lot of power it won't be a problem.

Changed my mind, again. No more domes, going with 4.5" mids.

This thread is basically me thinking out loud //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I figured imaging would be better if I had 200 Hz and above aimed at me as opposed to 1 kHz and above, plus I can't find a good crossover for that.

Here is the plan now.

Same tweet of course, but some Seas midranges and midbasses.

h1152.jpg

Seas H1152 4.5"

Nominal Impedance 8 Ohms

Recom. frequency range 45-5000 Hz

Short term max. power 200 W

Long term max. power 60 W

Sensitivity (1W/1m) 86 dB

Linear coil travel (p-p) 6.0 mm

Max. coil travel (p-p) 9.0 mm

Free air resonance 57 Hz

Price - $46.15 each

Sealed box of 1.5 liters (0.05cf) for f3 of 130Hz

For the midbass these look good, but so do about 20 other drivers, so this could easily change.

h1224.jpg

Seas H1224 7” aluminum cone woofer

Nominal Impedance 8 Ohms

Recom. frequency range 40-2500 Hz

Short term max. power 250 W

Long term max. Power 100 W

Sensitivity (1W/1m) 87 dB

Linear coil travel (p-p) 12.0 mm

Max. coil travel (p-p) 22.0 mm

Free air resonance 33 Hz

Price - $69 each

BTW I know they are 8 ohms, but I'll just get a powerful amp for them, should be fine.
