How would one HDC3 15 sound compared to two Alpine Type X 12's?

It will all depend on the install. Build a crappy box and you may be disappointed. Build the right box and it will definitely be loud. You getting the AQ or the Sundown? I'd go Nightshade to match the SAZ, but the HDC3's are impressive as well.

It's very much enclosure and install dependent. The HDC3 is a solid woofer and properly executed has the ability to sound good and be very loud. Honestly though once you get to a certain decibel level is sq really the goal? as long as the woofer stays linear, your good.

HDC in the right enclosure off the 1500 @ .5ohm should impress you. Mid 40's are possible and should sound good...
