how to wire 3 subs?

Hello all,

I am planning on installing 3 x 12" 400 watts subs (all 4ohm) this weekend, I was wondering how would I wire these subs using an 2 channel rf amp? The amp is the 500.2 model, it is 2/4 ohm stable. Is this even possible? Thanks for reading my post, any info would be great. Thanks.

wiring 3 X 4ohm SINGLE voicecoil would be 1.34ohm total

Wiring 3 X 4ohm DOUBLE voicecoil would be 2.67ohms

The RF 500.2 is only stable to 2 ohm stereo/4ohm MONO. Either of these configs will not be compatible for the amps. Also, you might be a tad underpowering each sub, as even if you can manage to get all of them to total 4ohms, 500watts would have to be shared between 3 subwoofers (about 160w RMS per sub).

We could help out more and give alternatives to your current setup, if you can state a specific model name and/or number. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

thanks for that, Im learning as I go.

Currently I am running 2 x 12" w0 in an custom ported bandpass box using my rf punch 500.2, I've read that bandpass is no good on this board and I've come to realize everyone is right. I am trading my box for 3 x 12" rf rfp3410 4ohm already sealed in an custom box. Here is what I have right now to mix and match.

rf punch 500.2

sony xm-2165gtx

200 watt mtx

600.2 rf amp (forgot the model #, but it's an few years old)

300.4 rf amp (same as above)

thanks

Ok, the RFP3410 is 200w RMS 4ohm SVC sub. That would mean you'd get a 1.34ohm load. RF is yet to prouce an amp that is declared safe for 1ohm loads. You'd be pushing the amps a fair bit.

Did you already trade the subs? I would think that the RFP's would be a tad better than the W0's but I could be very wrong too. Either way, you could also purchase one large 15" that would outperform the 3 X 10"s that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

The 600.2 and 300.4, they are the model #..//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Are yours with the fins at the sides (gold, silver or black fins) and a large RF logo in the middle, or are they of the long grille-looking type (completely black)?

what exactly would happen if say he did run that setup, to the amp i mean? im runnin mine at 1.6ohm which everyone says i shoudnt b doing but it working fine and i can run it for hours, maybe itll hurt in the long run but im seeing ZERO problems.

A few people have run RF amps to 1ohm without problems (like Jmac), and I'm sure team RF has done worse things to it.

Jmac says the punch is only stable to 2 ohms, whilst the power can run to 1ohm, just not stated.

I didn't want to suggest things that I'm not so sure about or things that are not recommended with the equipments. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

If the amp can take it, I guess it needs a bit more ventilation to it, as it will produce more heat than normal.

Ok, I've installed the punch 800a2, it's about 3 years old. I have bridged the three subs (svc @ 4ohm each) and it works. Now, am I doing some serious damage here?

it looks like this,

I also have this,

I also have an 4 channel punch 240.4.

If it works, good~ but it might be doing damage slowly.

Since you only need 600w RMS for all three subs (the amp will do lot more than just 800watts @ 4ohms), keep gains WAY down. Be wary of overheating. I guess the amp will go into protection mode often if you bump too often, too long.

I wonder what those amps will produce @ 1.34ohms...

I have decided to use the sony amp instead, if Im going to blow an amp it's gonna be the sony.

I have another question, are these settings ok for my 3 subs?

gain 2.0

Low Boost 6db

Filter 60hz

Any info would be great. Thanks all.

I'd suggest you leave the low(bass) boost on 0dB, Filter at about 80Hz~100Hz (if it's low pass).

As for the gain,s no one can tell you. You gotta set it yourself. put gain to 0, raise the hu volume 3/4 full, then slowly raise the gain till you hear distortion... then reduce slightly. THere's your gain settings.

I adjusted the low pass to 0db and used the hu (Pioneer DEH-P6500) bass but it sounded flat, no punch. I listen to music with a lot of bass so I will play it safe and keep it at 4db. Thanks anyway.
