How to test two Subs in a box work?

Hi,

I have two JL subwoofers in a custom built box with mono amp, that have gone unused for maybe 5 years. Is it possible to test it all works without having to hook it up to a car? Or possibly hooking it up to a car battery for power and somehow get it working with my home audio?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hook up all the power connections, play a straight tone and check the terminals with a multimeter set on vac, if you get a reading then hook the subs up and set the gain with a 0db tone with no bass boost
