How to tell how many memory slots I have in my CPU

I know I have 758 MB of ram in my CPU but I'm not sure how many slots I have. I want to upgrade but I only need to buy a 256MB stick if I have one slot open, or need to buy a 512 MB stick if they are all full and swap out. Is there a way to tell without opening up the computer?

Not at home right now but it is a custom built computer.

Off hand, I know it's a P4, 2 ghz.....that's pretty much all I can tell ya without sittin in front of it

you can download a program called Belarc or Sandra and that will tell you all the specs about your computer what cpu mob etc and ram is in it. One thing you need to do is find out what the mob is and what it will handle. like mine will only take pc2100 and up to 1gig of it, I didnt know that and spent extra money bought a 512 stick of pc2700 then I just bought 1gig of pc3200 and it is a waste of money for the faster ones if the mob wont run them at that speed. I am buying a new mob now because of this. But you will be able to find all that info out. Also like my mob the sticks have to be the same, I cant run a 512 and a 256, but some will and some wont run like pc2100 and a pc 2700. You can get all that info once you get your mob from one of them software programs I told you about. If your looking to get a stick of 512 I might sell the one I just pulled out of my computer a few days ago its pny 512 pc2700

Without knowing what kind of mobo it is, you'll probably have to look and see how many slots you have.

Also you can go to crucial.com I believe and they have a program that will scan your computer and tell you what kind of ram it will take. But use that belarc or sandra and find out what the mob is

This is using the sandra software see it shows my main board model, that is all you need to do and its a free download/program

I am working on upgrading my comp is fine for what I do just surfing this and ebay, but now that I am doing games it even works pretty good on that but building a new setup next week for gaming.
