How to run active setup

Do you have to have a deck that has a setting for active setup or do all decks have it?

What exactly is the difference between active, and passive setup?

I bought a ARC SE 4200 and read about a lot of people running them active. Im not exactly sure what this means, could someone please explain? thankyou

I know it seems like people are giving you rude responses but thats because there are tons of threads about this topic if you just search.

my opinion, dont do it. chances are if you try and run your first setup active you are going to probably damage something, and or it will sound like absolute ***. after a little over a year of researching and learning about different setups i attempted to go active and I just couldnt get things to sound right. im just now considering attempting it again because i have a much better grasp of tuning and all the different driver possibilities. id suggest just going passive for now until you get a little more experience of what sound you would like to achieve.

you sure b/c the Sundown Amps have a crossover multiplier so you don't need external processing.

I'll quickly explain. A passive crossover is a crossover in which ampliifed speaker signal gets sent(full-range) into a crossover then is converted/distributed to the driver it's intended for, Using caps, coils, resistors etc. An active crossover is the signal(headunit/low-range) is converted before it gets amplified. In short, passive can be run 2 way, 3 way, 4 way from one channel. active is 1 speaker per channel(tweeter, mid-range, woofer, sub-woofer)

Its alright, I understand, I searched it on google before I posted this, but I couldnt understand what the heck it was talking about cus it has so many terms I'm not sure of, and I was just hoping for a easy explanation. Thank you that is a lottt more simple than what I was reading on google lol. Ill research a lil more on my own, and eventually run active once I get exactly everything I want.

hardest thing to set-up was the front speakers, sub is too easy. I was lucky with my sub playing pretty flat across it's intended frequency range, an EQ seems like a must to me. The only thing i dont like about this dqx is that it won't let me change slope, its set to 24db. I hear some headunits are active capable and im sure that would help out/ be easier than a seperate unit.
