Switching to 10's would cut the box size nearly in half... 12's require a TON more volume, for minimal gain.

So are there 2 10's that I can run at around 500rms at 1ohm each?

Run infinite baffle. Problem solved.

Or take the isobaric advice. (2) subs in roughly half the airspace as a single. Smexy. That would mean both of your 12's in about 1 cubic foot.
