i bought an aftermarket shift knob, but i cant get it on my threads. its the cheap kind with the plastic caps and the three allen screws. it almost works with the caps but it is much too tall. so far i have tried tape to make the threaded shaft thicker so the screws could catch, and i cut one of the plastic caps so it could slide to the bottom.

I dont really mind spending money on a name brand knob, but i really like this one.

Any ideas are appreciated.

On my buddy's Civic I went to the hardware store, bought a nut that threaded onto the the shift lever, then grinded it a bit to make it fit in the shifter hole, and finally used a bunch of JB weld to secure it in the hole. Worked good for 5 months so far.
