i am working on a 96 lexus es300, i have done all the install, but i want to make the trunk look real nice, with carpeted panels and such, so i want to ask you guys, what type of boards is the panels made out of partical board or mdf, thickness, etc..? and whats the name of the carpeting, fleece? also is there a way to secure the panels so thiefs don;t just pull out the panels with amps on them. also do some of guys have pics of your completed trunk, really not into fiberglass yet, so just panels. thanks

ps. also what are the steps involve in doing this basic trunk setup, nothing fancy with plexiglass, is there any measuring techniques to make the job easier, the amps i have in the trunk is a ppi art series amps 1). a1200.2 2). A300.2 (2)amps, also a yellow top optima battery. ppi frx456 crossover. i really want to keep the spare tire. and still have some for the wifes shopping stuff, since its her car. thanks for any advice. thanks,

for the heck of it, i asked this one guy who said that he does installs as a regular job, said he would charge 400 to do this job, since the wires are all already ran to the trunk and since i am a diy person, i rather do it myself to learn how its done.

its not to impress anyone except myself.

an easy way to clean up your amps is to take any type of wood, cut it into a rectangle of desired size, carpeting it and kind of inverting it so when you mount the amps you can drill holes where the wires can go down and out behind the rack. I have it done to my firebird and will post a pic. You can do a much fancier way but this is simple and cheap.

thanks, i would like to have as much input. also do i remove the stock trunk carpeting? cause if and when i have to it strip it out, i would like to lay some deadner, while its all out.

I cleaned mine up by making beauty plates to cover the amps and to go around the subs. The amps (nine.1 on left side and nine.4 on right side) are bolted to mounts that are bolted to the floor, and the beauty plates hide all the mess. This is in a Grand Cherokee.

thank you for being concerned about how it looks... I haven't worked up the guts to post the thread I want to get started.. I know it will upset some people when I do...but it's these fools I am talking about. It drives me crazy when they take pictures of ther "HOT" install yet they dont take the time to tie off or route any wires, you can tell where they bought their cup of coffee from that morning and they use a pik to comb their hair--- ALL I AM ASKING is PLEASE vacuum and throw the trash away before taking a picture-----

rant--rant--- rant--

sorry.... got a little carried away there...

spud, that looks very nice, well you lucky that the cherokee has plenty room, and what type of wood, thickness and covering is that. not to sure what you mean by beauty plates, are they covers to protect the amps from getting scratched from being in the trunk, with daily use?

Beauty panels do wonders. I like to use 1/2 mdf when making them. Spud, that setup looks awsome. I'd like to see more pics, my buddy has been begging me to do an install in his Grand Cherokee, he would cream himself over yours.

I'm in the process of making a thread as I speak. Keep your eyes open in the General Forum for it.

I used some 1/8" wood from Lowes, not sure on what kind, but its relatively stiff if used in smaller pieces. The covering is some carpet I picked up from a local fabric shop. It was out of pure luck that it matched as good as it did. Beauty plates are the pieces that cover the amps wiring and such.
